I know he's not the answer, Keith. We need bodies for depth purposes. That's my point.
I think we are 9 deep next year if Dedric leaves...guess it depends on how good Azab and Nickelberry are...
I hope they are as good as advertised.
Azab is a lightly recruited red-shirt freshman project. Nickelberry is a freshman three star. IMO, it is unfair to them to expect much from either of them next season. However, unless something changes, they will by necessity be forced to play major minutes - especially if Tubby losses Dedric or another starter(s).

Yep, pretty easy to do. Just pick them from that ole recruiting tree. Too bad that tree grows in a magical forest and is guarded by unicorns and leprechauns.

I hope it's just a rumor. It would behoove Dedric to stay at least one more year
Maybe it behooves him to stay. Maybe not. If 20 PPG and 10 RPG doesn't put him on somebody's NBA radar, then I doubt 22 and 12 will do it, either.
Every year, there are players like Dedric who put up really impressive numbers, usually in the lesser conferences, by the way, who don't sniff the NBA. I think that's where Dedric is and will remain. He'll get a couple of tryouts and then have a nice career overseas. NBDL teams generally have one "Big" centerpiece per roster, and Dedric's not big enough/good enough/strong enough to be that guy, I don't think. I see Dedric as a classic "tweener" in size, and skillset.
Dedric needs to get stronger, work on his explosiveness, and quickness. I know that improvements in quickness are limited, but he needs to work to absolutely maximize his. Regarding explosiveness, back in the day, I improved my vertical 6" in 1-2 months on The Leaper. I am not sure what Dedric's hurry is. He does not have Million$ awaiting him, he is young (came out of HS a year early), his body is still maturing, and his family is financially stable (from what I can tell). What is the rush?

If you did, your vertical must have been zero before you started. Geez. If that were possible do you think every fringe NBA kid (for millions of $$) would do it?

Respectfully, wtf? Sure he's not a program changer or an elite player. As a senior grad transfer he'd have to be good enough. He was good enough to be an 8th or 9th man on a much more talented roster several years ago. Is he so bad now he can't even be a bench player or sixth man on this team? What has happened to him?

Apparently it's attitude or family issues
Who is our projected 3 anyway next year? And what is a 3 exactly? Some teams start 4 guards

Just put him on the court. The kid rebounded well when he was in there. I would think by now that his dad would realize that he can be a good role player/garbage man for this team.

I'd be more inclined to say "daddy" issues more than anything. Nick had a very pleasant and respectful demeanor when he was a player here.

I'm in this camp. I saw this kid bust it for 2 years for the tigers. There are probably family issues, but I don't count transferring away from Pastner against anybody since so many people did it, people who went on to be productive and useful players. what are we, worried this is going to mess up the great chemistry of our no-postseason team? Take away playing time from our amazing freshman class? We're short of players. Nick King can play well at the college level. I've seen it.

RE: Nick King
Nick King has no defined position, really. You don't run plays through him. You put him out there and let him do his thing with some direction. He's an effort guy who does everything ok. At the end of the day, you look up and he's got 9 points 8 rebounds a block and 2 steals.
He's not a game changer and he's not spectacular. He's just a good kid and solid contributor.
Having said that, he wouldn't be a difference maker here. Contributor, sure. Difference maker, no.
