Rick Perry apparently isn't that busy as Energy Secretary. Instead of doing whatever he's supposed to be doing, he took time Wednesday to comment on the recent election of the new Texas A&M student president. Apparently, Perry is pissed how the election went down.

He said the election of the first openly gay president of the institution's student body was "stolen" and that the student who had the most votes was disqualified through a process that "made a mockery of due process and transparency."

What's next? He'll complain about the Allen High School homecoming queen election being rigged (Buffy only won because her posters illegally used 5 colors when the limit was supposed to be 3?).

It sounds like he has a legitimate beef with his alma mater to me.

He's supposed to have no outside contact from the Energy department?

Apparently the kid who lost the election is the son of a prominent GOP fundraiser in north Texas.

Connect the dots.....

Or don't...

An election where a person is disqualified speaks for itself. That's going to draw criticism.

So on a website who first and foremost exists for those of us who follow our alma maters you're going to begrudge someone following their alma mater...

It also sounds like he might have a real beef..

Brooks was declared the winner in the campus election by the SGA even though he came in second in the vote count to Robert McIntosh , who is white and was disqualified by student election officials.

The winner was disqualified for not listing glowsticks on an expense report. Except the glow sticks were not even purchased, they were leftover from the “G.L.O.W. 5k”, a race that allowed him to take the leftovers.

They wanted a gay president so they could get off of the meanie list, and they made up fake chargers to disqualify the winner.

So political expediency supercedes common sense. Fight the good fight here, Gov Perry. Such battles matter.

Haven't read the article, but is he right?

I think the issue is that he didn't lose, he won. True, Perry wouldn't give a schit if it was someone else's son, but his point is still legit.

A) he's a prominent alumnus of said university, so he has every right to complain.
B) I'd assume (I don't know) he's a major donor to the University... so again, he's got every right to complain
C) TAMU Did indeed throw out this "Disqualification" factor rather haphazardly and very badly and it's definitely reeks.
D) It was ONE statement by Perry.

So I think you're off-the-mark for calling out Perry on this.

The professors who are amazed he commented on the subject are just upset that he put the light on the complete BS of the situation. Wonder how many votes the guy won by, was it close or a blowout?

WTF?

Quote:McIntosh was disqualified on charges that he did not provide receipts for glow sticks used in a campaign video.

Looks like the fix was in.

Exactly. Perry is an idiot, but he's very entitled to have an opinion about his alma mater.

Looks like something similar to catching Capone via tax evasion. Someone wanted this dude out, and they found a way to do that.

It is very Aggieish.

CFO in the 90s caught the A&M board violating the law buying liquor. They sicced internal audit on him and charged him with a crime for using A&M phones talking to a woman (an A&M subordinate) he was having an affair with. It was "personal" use of A&M property and he didn't pay for it.
