That's a fascinating stat. I wonder what percentage of those Tennessee D1 recruits, come from Shelby County? More than half? I would think so.

Nevada jumps out as an anomaly. How many "prep academies" do they have out there?

Good question. Quick look at 247 for any 3-5 star recruits, Shelby County versus rest of state.

2018: 5 of 6
2017: 4 out of 10
2016: 5 of 11
2015: 7 of 13 (Dedric reclassed)
2014: 5 of 7
5 year total: 26 of 47 = 55%

Looks like we have about 5 every year, regardless of what the rest of the state does. BTW, there's also a good few that are not counted in Shelby County, but are certainly within our local area (Jackson, Union City, Brownsville, Lexington) - and this doesn't include north Mississippi either.

And we will be fortunate to even make the NCAA Tourney the next two years.

FWIW, I updated my analysis of high school recruits in the state. Pulled data from 2009-2016, so 8 full recruiting classes post-Cal.

81 total 3-5 stars in the state. Average 10 per year.
67% are from West TN.
58% are from Shelby County. 6 per year.

We only signed 11 of the 81 state guys.
But this is far more than any other school.
Next closest are UTK and MTSU, who each signed 6.

All 11 of our signees are from West TN.
10 are from Shelby County - Nick being the lone exception.
We've signed 10 of the 47 from Shelby County.
Again, far more than any other school. But it's only 1 out of 5 local recruits.

Of the 11 we signed, 4 transferred out (or dropped - Nick).

His peers don't like him, the media doesn't like him and pretty much everyone outside of Kentucky fans don't like him. He'll tell you it's because he wins, and he'd be wrong. K has won a lot more than Cal, and K is largely respected and admired. Same with Izzo and a few others.

Guess that's why he is in HOF and Tubby isn't.

I think Tubby's 30-17 in the tournament. Cal is something like 50-16. There's no comparison between the two as far as tournament success goes. The only thing Tubby has over Cal in that regard is taking 5 teams to the dance as opposed to Cal's 3. Now, if you want to talk about anything related to character . . . let's just say Cal ain't gettin' in that Hall of Fame.

John Calipari was joined onstage by 64 of his former players during his Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame induction on Friday night.

Calipari gave most of the credit behind his success to his players.
“The reason I stand here is more about the players I've coached,” Calipari said. “I never grabbed a rebound, I never scored a point, I never had an assist.”

Lemme know when he's on stage accepting this one.

Don't follow it that closely anymore, but in the day, Dunbar and DeMatha were always fully loaded. My high school had a VTech recruit, who played in the 1986 game when they beat an undefeated Dana Kirk Memphis team.
