Wichita State might end up in the AAC...
I saw an article, which once found, I'll post here about Wichita State possibly moving to the AAC. I always enjoy watching the Shockers play and root for them. I think it'd be great to have them in the league with UC, UConn and SMU...

Where is Moose on this?
Won't we have to split up our revenue to bring in another team? Where is ESPN? Will the Death Star Network be raising our AAC share to keep the Shockers out? Are they an AAU school? How are their academics - never mind, we have the Community College of Memphis.
Schools can't really negotiate an invite to another conference just to improve their athletic status and revenues. I've been told that you must sit and wait. Shocking!!!!

They'd bring us the TV markets from Wichita to Dodge City. This would be a huge.

The Shockers look to be a top 10 team next year. They return their entire roster from a 31 win team.

And after 3 years of being in the top 3rd, but not #1, of the AAC, the Shockers recruiting will suffer since they don't win and no one wants to go to Wichita. Just a silly plane ride, or a very long bus ride, for all of UC's sports.

Adding WSU might work like this:
West - WSU,TULSA, UH, SMU, TULANE, MEMPHIS
EAST - UC, UCONN, ECU, TEMPLE, UCF, USF
As long as non revenue sports are concentrated within the divisions the West teams are closer than the East teams. Play non revenue sports mostly in Division until tourney time to decide Conference Championships.

RE: Wichita State might end up in the AAC...
If this is going to happen, has there been any speculation on when play would start? Unlike football, you could get one expansion team on the basketball schedule fairly easily for the coming season. Given that the Shockers are predicted to be very good next year there would be an immediate benefit in terms of scheduling, RPI and getting the AAC back to being a four bid league.
As with any expansion, this would further erodes a Missouri Valley Conference that has become mostly irrelevant the past few decades anyway. It's amazing to think what that conference could have been if it had held together from 50+ years ago when it was often dominating the college basketball scene.

UC left in 1970 to become an independent which became the trend at that time probably a third of the NCAA became independents in the 1970's until the rule allowing more than one from each conference being allowed to make the tournament.

It's my understanding that Wichita State does not have an exit fee or a notice requirement (ie. AAC is 27 months). With regards to scheduling, keep in mind this is not just "basketball only", they just don't have a football team. Therefore all other varsity sports would become a member of the conference (ie. baseball, soccer, golf, tennis, volleyball, etc.).
Wichita State could announce today and be ready to play the following season.

Great. I read one (way too early) 2018 top ten that included Wichita. It didn't include UC, but that's a topic for another thread. The AAC could use this immediate infusion of quality basketball.

Per ESPN: Wichita State states it will accept invite, if offered. AAC sources says decision coming in the next few weeks or months.

A source with direct knowledge told ESPN on Thursday that the AAC will make a decision on Wichita State soon.
If this were to occur, it would happen for the 2018-19 season, since it would be too late for the 2017-18 season. Under NCAA rules, if a conference adds a basketball-only member, it must take all of its Olympic/non-revenue sports. That's not the case for accepting a football-only member. The AAC has a football-only member in Navy.
also....
Meanwhile, the AAC is also making a decision on the future home of its men's and women's basketball tournaments. The women's tournament will return to the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, next season and likely for the foreseeable future, according to a source.
The men's tournament will be in Orlando in 2018, and the league is looking at Orlando being an anchor site that gets a set number of years in a rotation. The other candidates being discussed for the rotation include Hartford, Connecticut -- which has hosted two of the past three seasons -- and Tulsa, Oklahoma, which just hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament and boasts at least five schools within driving distance.

Why not NOLA? Memphis?

Nothing finer than Tulsa in March. Seriously? Those programs that are within driving distance aren't the ones that would deliver fans anyway.
Wouldn't most adult fans prefer the Tampa area to be on the Gulf Coast in March rather than in the center of the state in Orlando?
Put it in New Orleans, aggressively bundle travel deals for the various alumni bases and build a week of activities around the tournament to make it an event in a destination city.

Tulsa is not on my wish list but it would deliver a large Wichita contingent. Plus interacting with Lynn Marshall might be entertaining.
