Unofficial 2017/18 Off Season MBB's Thread

Some potential bright spots is that Minnie could be an upgrade at PF and of course do-it-all Bond returns. Weaker spots could be at Center and more so a very thin backcourt. Question marks are how much contribution will EMU get from newcomers Jackson, Harris, and Groce. Who is EMU getting in as freshman?
G 6-1 Jackson
G 6-6 Harris
F 6-6 Bond/ 6-7 Groce
F 6-9 Minnie/ 6-9 Nobles
C 6-11 Steele/ 6-9 LWH
Why are you assuming JT4 is leaving?
Most underclassmen who enter the NBA draft w/out an agent return.
Assume that to be true with JT4.
Because I would draft him if I was an NBA team... no bias of course
And you would be fired as a NBA GM. 6-10 centers who don't stretch the floor are a dime a dozen. He's appeared on zero mock drafts.

I hope JT4 just entered the draft without an agent to gain some publicity heading into his junior season. He is a very talented player with much upside. We all know he projects to play the 4 at the next level. I am sure he comes back for his junior season to work on his mid range jump shot, finishing at the rim, and getting physically stronger to control the paint.
If he improves his game, he definitely has the body to make a team at the next level.

Saw an ESPN article on the NBA early entry process:
Last day to withdraw May 24.
JT4 projected not to be drafted.

I checked twitter accounts this AM, did not see EMU mentioned outside of initial offer for Cockfield, Reese, Marcus Shaver Jr, Kendrick Gray and D'Andre Bernard. Shaver Jr took a recent visit to Boise St.

The writing was likely on the wall for him, with us adding Minnie and Green. I wish him the best of luck.
That opens another schollie, so we have 2 left. Go get a JUCO guard, Murphy!

BTW, we can assume he is a grad eligible transfer.
LWH had two years at JUCO, didn't finish JUCO degree, redshirted and played one season at EMU for a total of 4 years.

I wonder why he never faired well at EMU. He seemed to be strong and athletic. But never got into the rotation, really

Don't know where to put this. 100 or 1,000% speculation.
Would like to have this kid. Originally from St. Paul, MN. Redshirted at Minnesota, then transferred to IL. State and then ended up in JUCO and then Texas Southern.
Put up very big numbers for TSU this past season as a SG.
I guess the big boys will make a run at him as a grad transfer eligible.

I'm thinking of our connection to SWAC. None? I was thinking Houston Baptist (Harris), but HOU Baptist isn't in the SWAC.

25% from 3 on almost 4 attempts a game is terrifying. Why on earth was he shooting so much? But his 2 pt % wasn't bad at all, and his other numbers indicate to me that he will indeed be courted by the power teams. Any coach with an extra scholarship would love to throw it at an immediately eligible kid who could potentially improve your team, rather than just sit on it until the following year.

Lest, I made a mistake on my math:
Three point shooting was not too good, but two point shooting was good.
I got 49% 2-point shooting and the stats say 79% FTs.
Does that suggest that he is a scorer, but not pure shooter?
He was at San Jacinto the same school which gave us Willie.

Exactly. Sounds like, just from the numbers, he finishes well or has a decent mid-range jumper. It just frustrates me as a stat nerd to see someone, who clearly isn't a good three point shooter, keep shooting. 4 attempts a game is a lot, especially for someone who only makes them 25% of the time.
We need a guy that can knock them down in the high 30's/low 40's at a high clip. Unfortunately, it clashes with the type of long athlete that Murphy wants, because if a guy is long, athletic, and can shoot, he's getting calls from Coach K, Roy Williams, Rick Pitino, etc. Those guys don't play in the MAC.
I think Murph needs to bite the bullet and add someone that may not be as athletic, but can keep defenses honest. This roster is talented, but lots of teams are just going to pack it in and make Tim Bond and co. jack up too many threes.

I agree. A lot of teams have a (one) one-dimensional three-point shooting player.
Max Hooper at Oakland U. might be a prototype one-dimensional three point shooter.

RE: Unofficial 2017/18 Off Season MBB's Thread
He only shot marginally better in his one year at Illinois State. 29% from three on 5.5 attempts and, as you can see from the video, he had the green light from basically anywhere on the court, for some reason. Ty Toney also shot 29% from three last year (on only 1.6 attempts per game). Now, imagine if Ty took almost 6 three pointers EVERY game...this board would have gone bonkers, and rightfully so.
Guys like Willie Mangum can hoist up that many shots when they can hit a respectable number like 37%. Even that isn't GREAT, but at least he's making more than 3rd of his attempts, which any coach can live with (especially one with no real offensive scheme). Anything below 33% should be a sign that you probably aren't Steph Curry, and that you should start attacking the basket more.
This Lofton kid is a statistical anomaly. Very rarely do you see someone, even in college, shoot so many threes at such an awful percentage.
