agree to a point....money, age, and family are a factor in this instance....JMO

and it works to MT's advantage....

good luck with him moving forward.....you guys and the conference need stability moving forward

RE: Kermit
I know Kermit pretty well from my in laws and I can see him staying because of his family. I don't think he would leave but if he did it would be because he feels like he reached his mountain top at Mtsu. I sort of agree that Williams was a life sent from heaven for that team. But I honestly don't see him going anywhere.

Hope he stays. Good coaches in the conference are good for the conference.

ThreeIf, you don't need to get your panties in a wad every time someone says he might leave for more money. It's the nature of the business, nobody is immune to it. The more successful he is, the higher the offers will be. It's not rocket science, it's not a hot take, it's just the way it goes - it doesn't matter how much you think you know the man.

See post #20. Thanks for another overly simplistic take. Definitely needed another one.

The suggestion that if he stays it's because he wasn't offered is asinine.

Hearing from a well placed source that it is Wade at lsu.

I have no idea of there was contact with Davis but he had alot of supporters wanting him. He has many ties to that area from his days in the juco system in mississippi.

Possibly, but Rhodes would be the CUSA coach most likely to be targeted for obvious reasons. I don't know Kermit from Gonzo and Beaker, but he seems pretty happy at Middle Tennessee and as much as I want VCU to get a good coach, I don't know how much interest either party would have (VCU hires young, and Kermit might rather develop a VCU than join one at this stage).

I think they'd go with the Rice coach before Kermit or anybody else for that matter. Fan bases get caught up in 'style of play'. There'll be pressure to recreate or continue 'havoc'. Never mind that 'havoc' isn't working so well in Austin. Fan bases won't be hiring the next coach for VCU but they'll let it be known what they want.

And this is no slam at Kermit at all. But he coaches a completely different brand of basketball.

Based only on the small handful of Rice games that I've watched over the past two seasons, I can't agree with this assessment. I've not seen anything out of Coach Rhoades' Rice teams that in anyway resemble VCU's touch-foul-and-crybaby "havoc" style of defense.

Am I wrong about that?

Yea what I saw was not much defense from Rice but very good offensive team...Sounding like a done deal with Rhodes to Rice, who would Rice hire to replace him?

Kermit via Nashville radio interview...

"I'm not going anywhere, I promise."

Which means we will learn tomorrow where his next destination will be and who hired him.

If he'd made it to the Sweet 16, I'd possibly agree with you. Since he's yet to go beyond the 2nd round and he's upper 50's, he'll be in conversations about possible coaching vacancies but I don't see power schools aggressively going after him. I'm sure he's happy where he's at and won't be going anywhere.

I guess thats a "positive" for losing to Butler.

I do think if he ever goes somewhere he will remain in the South, or on the fringes (i.e. Okie State). Both parents have recently had cancer (remission, now). I believe they still live in the Starkville area (furniture business with his brother).

Let's be honest, every time this happens in any sport it's the same thing.

Homers always think their coach will turn down money and prestige because of attachments. I wish this were true, but it isn't.

I mean honestly.....WKU folks were saying it with Brohm and he left for PURDUE.

I know right? Freaking PURDUE.
