Keatts replacement
My point is that, as fans, we may have to temper our expectations and think more objectively. That's going to be hard for us too, especially after the last three years. Like Hoops said, I like that Dooley proved he can maintain success.

Dooley was also in contention for UMass, and UMass hired their coach today. If we're down to three, and each has interviewed as of yesterday, I can think of only one reason why this won't be wrapped up by Friday.

I feel more relaxed in my patience now, just by hearing that it's been narrowed down to a small pool of quality candidates.

Based on what? Gut feeling, or something else? I really think if it's next week, it will be McGrath.

Like 75 said. Everybody (coaches) will be at the final four, whether their team is in it or not.

Kevin Keatts was like 41 when he came on board. Dooley is 51. Maybe I will be proven wrong, but Coach Keatts was very special and these guys do not measure up in my opinion.

What's your point...? That the ASun conference was really good before Dooley and not so good since he came on board? You do realize the ASun was the 26th best conference in the nation when Enfield took FGCU to the NCAA and won a couple of games, which isn't much different than their #27 spot right now.

No, it's not an impressive conference. And we have no idea if we are getting an equal to Keatts or not. Time will tell. Yes, Keatts was special....in hindsight. Duh. But his resume' was not THAT impressive or he would have gone somewhere else. It only looks impressive because he came here and did so well. And guess what, he could fail at NCSU. Nobody knows yet. Tom Crean went to Indiana as one of the hottest coaches with one of the best resume's in the country, where is he now? Fired due to lack of success.

It's nice to position yourself for a "see, I told you so" in the future. Anyone can do that. But, let's not become unrealistic NCSU fans. We love UNCW, but in the really big picture, we ain't all that. And our coaching search has produced FAR better candidates than JMU, Drexel or Delaware did last year. Our worst choice has a far better resume' than their best choices.

Joe Dooley, or any of these guys, would be considered a solid hire for UNCW. And when Dooley's name surfaced, there was pretty much universal praise that he would be a good coach for us.

Special called Trustee meetings require 48 hours notice. Jimmy would have to have a coach identified and also have a contract negotiated in order for the trustees to vote on the hire.

If the meetings just wrapped up Tuesday, that would mean he would have had to have everything negotiated and finalized by this (Wednesday) afternoon. That timeline just isn't/wasn't realistic.

Monday seems realistic and likely.

I don't want to be Debbie Downer. Maybe he is the best available and I need to temper expectations. Will Dooley have the burning desire to win more than Earl Grant? What happened to the idea of continuing the pressing style?

It sounds UNC Wilmington is down to four candidates in the search to replace Kevin Keatts. Three of the four include Arizona associate head coach Joe Pasternack, North Carolina assistant coach C.B. McGrath, and Florida Gulf Coast head coach Joe Dooley. There is some speculation that the fourth candidate is Louisville assistant coach Kenny Johnson. Sounds like this one is moving quickly.

Kenny Johnson sounds good to me.

I would say maybe, maybe not. You definitely have more quality coaches knocking on your door, that is for damn sure.

JMU botched theirs and had no good choices. So I agree 100% if compared to JMU

Delaware only wanted 1 guy and they got him. He was a hot name as the top assistant for ND. That was a great hire for Delaware, his name was also in the search for Drexel and other jobs last year.

Drexel, while semi risky hire, hired a man who had success at Army, the only coach in their history to win as many games as they did in that span of number of years. The only other 2 that were close and in the same realm of success at Army were Knight and K. His resume was damn impressive to be interested in Drexel.

So in my opinion the conference is still getting good coaches to look our way, which means the conference will continue to strengthen. It is great that UNCW is now a job upcoming coaches want to be at. In my opinion it will be the 3rd great hire in the conference out of 4 available hires. That bodes well for the conference going forward

I don't age as a factor with these guys at all. Dooley is 51 and what is the point there? All of you younger posters on this board can look forward to working a full time job into your 70's. That should be considered a blessing in my mind. What can be better than to wake up everyday knowing you have a job and get to go to work! Coaches are no different than any other guy working the regular job other than than whatever stress they put on themselves to coach a game-and get paid. What a life!

If not Monday, then that would lean to McGrath IMO especially is the holes are in the final.

What about my statement is wrong? If they are in the finals and there is no announcement Monday, that would appear to point in that direction.
