RE: WaPo Article on Mid-Major Tournament Access
With Wichita moving to American, their goes another at large bid more then likely most seasons as long as Greg Marshall is their coach...Now days if you have a powerhouse basketball program emerge you just join a better conference especially if you do not have football...Trends are where the next few seasons it will be virtually impossible to get an at large bid from our conference...Unless you have 4 or 5 top 50 wins and go 30-3 and lose in conf. finals...Even then you will be sweating, just sad to see how college basketball pretty soon will be just like college football...Most of us will be regulated to the CBI...

Clearing writing on the wall if you want your program to emerge and be in contention for at large bids to NCAA tournament you better hope you turn into a powerhouse and string together a decade or so of great success so you can you leave conference for a better one, only way at this point....Its almost every man for themselves now, our conference as it is has zero chance.....Amazing in 3 short years how my views have changed with this conference, 3 years ago I was saying we could get 2 or 3 teams in most season, clear as day to see that is now impossible...

I don't disagree, totally, but 4 maybe 5 years ago the SBC had a at large bid and two years ago CUSA had a at large bid. I still say Middle would have got a at large bid this past season. You can't just look at the seeding and say...

Middle a 12 seed and the last at large bid was a 11 seed.

Nope, you have to consider that two of those 11 seeds had to play a play in game. So in this case the 12 seed was better than the two 11 at large bids.If Middle had loss in the CUSA finial they take the place of one of those 11 seeded play in games.

If you look at 30 years ago it was a heck of lot easier getting that bid out of the non P5 conferences. But over the last 10 years or so it's been in cycles. Lately it favored the P5. espn has to protect the 100s of million of dollars they are paying. So while it's a lot harder getting the at large bid. The A-10 has shown you can get 2-3 teams in the dance yearly

The committee has in a clear message they simply don't care what the non-power conference teams do you're just not getting in and let you win the conference tournament. To think that middle Tennessee was worthy is unfathomable yet they were not getting in and less they won the conference tournament
