RE: AAC Hoops: 2017-18 Early Look
The only programs I have confidence in (besides UC) is UConn. With the recruits they get, even Ollie will have them NCAA tourney relevant (if not great) again. SMU and Memphis I have hope for. But honestly, outside of UC and UConn I don't see any other aac team being anything more than a 1-2 year on and off flash in the pan. Hope I'm wrong.

houston has to be in the "pan" in order to "flash".

If UCONN leaves bring in MTSU and Wichita. 2 good hoops programs and MTSU decent in football with a Nashville presence. Instant rival with Memphis.

If it's to turn the program back around it's s Dunphy for me. He's too good and too smart of a coach not to get it fixed. Maybe he'll even embrace recruiting at some point.

I just don't see Temple having much of ceiling under Dunphy at this point. We've won two tournament (never a Sweet 16) games under his watch. We've been ranked a grand total of 24 weeks (never in the top 10 and not since March 5th of 2012) in the 11 years under Dunphy. We've only entered the season ranked once and never finished the year ranked. I just don't see Temple taking the next step nationally under our current regime. The sample size to me suggests we're nothing more than a bubble team under Dunphy.

Ollie has to get UConn back to nationally relevancy. Ranked, in the conversation all year and/or tournament success imo. I trust UConn's administration to make a move to maintain legitimacy more than any other school's in the AAC.

You make some good points on Dunphy, but I still think he's capable of a quick turnaround for TU. Your point about the ceiling is well received though. I agree that Dunphy can only take Temple so far and that is likely not as far as the fans want the program to go.

As for Ollie, next year is make or break. He had a ton of injuries this year so for anyone to base his coaching abilities on this year alone is as dumb as basing his coaching abilities on his national championship year alone. From those I trust (wife works at the school tidbits trickle sometimes) the AD will not accept another year like this year next. It's put up or shut up time for him so I think your right about the administration.
Haith is just now getting his players established. The next 2 seasons will show if he's really our guy or not.

Forewarning: I am an admitted absolute Haith hater. Don't hold it against me when I'm (ir)rationally hating on him in the future.

I'm in the same boat to some degree. I don't think he can coach a defense to save his life, and he doesn't get the most out of his players during make or break opportunities.

Credit John Chaney for much of Temple's success. Schedule tough games early and come on late in the season seemed to be the Chaney plan.

Gray is leaving?

I went to some Sampson radio shows this year where he went out of his way to say Gray is coming back next year.

Has something changed recently?

Sampson is a liar. Pended was a much better coach and Houston was expected to do great things when he came. Remember that? Sampson is Penders part 2. Or Dickey.
Cheers!

Right. X blocks them for the same reasons X doesn't want Dayton in-conference.

That's part of the reason but UC is still living the football fallacy. They wouldn't have spent $90 million on nippert renovations to join a b-ball only conference.

Fallacy? Do tell.

fal·la·cy
ˈfaləsē/Submit
noun
a mistaken belief, especially one based on unsound argument

It's fallacious that we think we can compete at the highest level of football. Even if we get into a P5 conference we will never be competing for a national title. Fallacy.

Jessie Pinkman and his band wrote a great song called Fallacy.

Cheers'

RE: AAC Hoops: 2017-18 Early Look
I have been feeling discouraged about ECU and AAC, but life without hope is extremely hard to sustain.

We need to get into July and beginning of August where there are no sporting events going on so we can all relax, and push forward.

Please no CUSA call ups, unless Southern Miss gets 500 billion dollar donation and can grind it out with upgrades. We are a good bunch of fans because we are AAC fans. Hang in there everyone.

If the Lawsons both return, Memphis could be really good.

I haven't seen Dedric Lawson on any of the recent mock drafts. Why on Earth would it be a good idea to come out now? Especially with a father and brother on the team...

Raphael Chillious is headed to UConn as an assistant coach, per multiple sources. Was primary recruiter on Markelle Fultz at UW last year.

I think Dedric is gone. KJ probably with us next year but not definite. Markel Crawford is a maybe.

Next year could be really bad..

2016 4 star recruit and now UCONN Freshmen Vance Jackson, 6'7" swing player, who started 23 out of 31 games, is transferring out of the program.

He is originally from LA.

Yup. If everyone above leaves we are looking at a 10 win season and battling USF/Tulane for the bottom of the league.
