There are plenty of folks who said before the tournament that FSU was a very weak 3 seed. No one's saying that about UCLA. We got a tough draw and X got a great draw (again). Maybe its just luck or maybe Rath is right or maybe the universe is conspiring against us.

How is Fla. St. a very weak 3 seed, they are higher in rpi and kenpom than UCLA. List of tourney teams Fla.St. has beaten include but not limited too---Iona, Minn., Fla., W.F., Va., Va. Tech, Duke, N.D., UL, Miami. UCLA has five wins against tourney teams, total. For what its worth, UC only has four.

Florida State is 25 on kenpom (I know, I'm drinking). UCLA 18, UC 19. In fact Florida State is only 4 spots higher than Kansas State.

That should translate to a 7 seed, not a 3.

Not when you play in the vaunted ACC!
Just playing in that league is worth at least 3-4 seeding lines. (snort.)

But they are 14 in the RPI.

Even by that FSU should be a 4 seed not a 3.
The SC obviously uses the RPI but it is a flawed metric.

RE: Lucky X. Really?
FWIW, UC was a 6 seed in the 2012 Tourney beating Texas and then #3 FSU to advance to the S16.

As for Xavier this year, they've been a Jekyll and Hyde team. They were ranked as high as #7 during the regular season and then went on a consecutive losing skid at the end. They get in the NCAA as an 11 seed and perform when it counts. They're not the first, nor will they be the last, 11 seed to advance to the S16. They join the following 19 teams to have done this since the tourney expanded in 1985:

2017 Xavier (3) Florida St. 91–66
2016 Gonzaga (3) Utah 82–59
2015 UCLA (14) UAB 92–75
2014 Tennessee (14) Mercer 83–63
2014 Dayton (3) Syracuse 55–53
2012 NC State (3) Georgetown 66–63
2011 Marquette (3) Syracuse 66–62
2011 VCU (3) Purdue 94–76
2010 Washington (3) New Mexico 82–64
2006 George Mason (3) North Carolina 65–60
2002 Southern Illinois (3) Georgia 77–75
2001 Temple (3) Florida 75–54
1998 Washington (14) Richmond 81–66
1991 Connecticut (14) Xavier 66–50
1990 Loyola Marymount (3) Michigan 149–115
1989 Minnesota (14) Siena 80–67
1988 Rhode Island (3) Syracuse 97–94
1986 Louisiana State (3) Memphis 83–81
1985 Auburn (3) Kansas 66–64
1985 Boston College (3) Duke 74–73

There were also two other 11 seeds that won their opening game this year. Is it luck that all three won in the same year? Perhaps. Did Rhode Island and USC get easy draws or did they step up and get hot at the right time? I'm just damn happy UC was the only 6 seed to win. Was that luck from an easy draw or did UC take care of business and the other 6 seeds did not? You can spin this a lot of different ways.

But coming into the Tourney, UCLA was #18, FL State was #19 and UC was #22 in Kenpom.

RE: Lucky X. Really?
How about Butler's draw to the s16, beat a 12 and 14 seed.

I'm still trying to understand how Maryland was a 6.

Because the seeds this year were a joke. X benefitted from it.

It really is time to take the Selection out of the hands of ADs who have a vested interest in seeing as many teams as possible from their conferences get in and with the best seeds as possible for the easiest paths.
