Almost all mid majors are underseeded in the tournament. On average I estimate all G5 schools in the top 50 teams are seeded 1.5 to 2 seeds worse than they should be. Wichita State is vastly underseeded. They have the metrics of team about 4 seeds higher than they are.
Underseeded:
Wichita State
Rhode Island
Saint Mary's (Won)
SMU
MTSU (Won)
VCU (Lost to Saint Mary's)
Nevada
Oklahoma State
Cincy
Florida, Virginia, and Michigan are other some schools that are slightly underseeded as well.
Overseeded:
Maryland (LOST to lower seed)
Seton Hall
Northwestern (won due to Vanderbilt stupidity, though Vanderbilt was seeded similarly)
Michigan St.
South Carolina
Virginia Tech
Minnesota (LOST to lower seed)
Bunch of P5 schools are overseeded a bit.
For example, if you went off of metrics, SMU would be a 3 or 4 seed, Cincy a 5, Saint Mary's a 4, Wichita a 6. Gonzaga would still be a #1
Teams like MTSU and Nevada would move up to the 10 range, Rhode Island into a 9/maybe 10.
This whole terrible combo of eye test, metrics, and beating NAME team garbage ruins it. They have so many options because they want to be able to justify their picks AFTER they make them and they want to be able to justify why a non power school is seeded how it is even though the metrics say otherwise.
