MyBB KY Mr Basketball Signee
Guy we signed in the fall Taveion Hollingsworth won Mr. Basketball in the state of Kentucky last night, which is a pretty big deal for our state...We have one class so to be the top one in this state is something...Our last Mr. Basketball to play for us was back in 2007, Stephon Pettigrew who was a pretty good player for us.....

ALso says something about this kid being from my town now Lexington home of Cayuts....UK basically told him to wait until the spring and see if they would have room for him, he basically told them to shove it and signed with us in the fall....FOr someone to do that in Lexington says a lot about this kid and I am sure his friends give him a hard time, but hey he is right why wait and see if UK has a scholarship available when you can sign with someone who really wants you! By all accounts he is also a very good kid and cannot wait to see him in action starting in the fall...

WKU's incoming class is the truth, but it would be nice if they were spread throughout the teams so we were all rising. Good for WKU though.

They just have to hope that Stans can handle the personalities better than he did in his last few years in Stankville.

Pretty big get for the Tops. Him signing in the fall kept UK from swooping in this spring like they did with Hawkins 4 years ago, or LSU with Hickey 6 years ago. Getting the best from our own state is huge

Historically speaking... every time we have signed a Mr. Kentucky basketball we have advanced to at least the Sweet 16 over the course of his career. BIG get to go with some other big gets.

I've seen people say this a few times....

Steve Miller was Mr basketball and played at Western from 1985-89. No sweet 16

Unless I'm mistaken about Steve being Mr basketball. But I believe he beat out Fred Tisdale who also played at Western.

Western did go to back to back NCAA Tourneys ('86 and '87) winning a game each year. But lost to uk & Syracuse in the 2nd round.

Right now I'm OK with making the tourney and build off that...sweet 16 would be icing on the cake at this point.

Steve Miller was Mr Basketball in 1984. So yes that is correct.

That's the only way to improve our league but at the same time it sends shivers to the rest of the schools. You do and you don't want the other schools to be way better than you.

But, he's a good get and congrats.

Hollingsworth is a great get for us. He's been named the best player in the state. Quite often if UK or UL sign an instate kid he gets the award. We rarely get them. It's got some politics involved. We love him as he set the record for career scoring in the city of Lexington. And there've been some fine players come through that city.

Some stats though: He's a 3*

Population of Ky - 4.4 million
Population of Houston Metro - 5.6 million
Population of DFW Metro - 7.1 million

So if you guys get the best player out of either one of those metro areas he's probably higher rated than our guy.

This class is loaded. Not just the fall signees. We've got 3 sitting out that are going to help immensely. My only concern is what I saw out of Stansbury as a bench guy this year. Our fans believe we'll have so much more talent than anyone in CUSA by such a long shot we'll roll through it next year. I'm not in that corner.

Edit: I hope they're right and my skepticism is wrong.

.
As most of us know in the bluegrass Mr. Basketball is seldom the best player in the state. Since 1991 only one Mr. Basketball has played at the NBA level, there have been a handful of good college players Chris Lofton, Dominique Tilford and Stephone Pettigrew. Most WKU fans hope Hollingsworth turns out to be the real deal but we will have to wait and see.
Yes Steve Miller was Mr Basketball in 1984 but Fred Tisdale was the better player.
