I guess a WAC sign would have shared the pub a bit better for us all here, but not bad. Don't know if they got actual attention from the camera/talent, but the were in the front.

In the game against UTA, there two leading scores in the game were Briggs with 19 points and Durham at 18 points. Both are juniors. Wrapp and Aly are also coming back. The style of ball is not going to change. They play tough defense and control the pace of games and that is not going to change. I think Barnes recruits players that fit that system well.

GCU is losing Russell, but not much else and they are adding another three star high school recruit. I agree with a lot of your other points. Seattle is a total unknown, just got to see what they do at head coach.

I think scoring wise, Barnes has a good nucleus of players to build around. However, without "mature" deep who can execute his pressure defense, it will be hard for his team to get the jump on teams like NMSU, GCU, and UVU. All three have very good scorers as well. Barnes will needs some of his new players to execute his defensive system with little drop off. This season, Barnes has the luxury of having a veteran group of quick mature guards...Dedrick Basile, Justin Pride, and Jaylin Airington (and one very quick/athletic forward... Matt Smith). I'm not sure Wrapp and Durham can sustain that defensive intensity without bench support. If Barnes can get CSUB into the top three, that would be his best coaching effort to date.

The thing with Bakersfield too is how Barnes has been able to get transfers. Now a deep NIT run and the tourny appearance last year? Bigger name transfers will take CSUB more seriously and ones who dont need to sit out a year could play a big part next season

During one of Bakersfield's games, I remember hearing that Barnes used the JUCO system to build his program quickly. However, as his program becomes more established, Barnes wants to rely more heavily on recruiting freshmen.

After last season, Barnes brought in three JUCOs (Shon Briggs, Jame Suber, and Moataz Aly) and three freshmen (Tazé Moore, Justin Davis and Greg Lee); red-shirting two of the freshmen. Now in Bakersfield's upcoming recruiting class, Barnes has signed one JUCO (Rickey Holden) and three more freshmen (Jarkel Joiner, Justin McCall, and Darrin Person Jr.). It appears the transition from mostly JUCOs to mostly freshmen has begun. Currently, Barnes has all 13 scholarships filled for next season. So, it appears he will be relying on mostly freshmen to back fill the roles of bench depth as upperclassmen fill the roles of four graduating seniors. These incoming freshmen might be an upgrade in talent but there will be a learning curve next season.

I didnt realize they had so many freshman coming in this year. I saw on Twitter someone said Joiner was averaging the 2nd most ppg in the nation of all high school players.

Yup, Jarkel Joiner (6' 1", 170-lbs) finished his HS senior year averaging 36.5 ppg (stats & highlight video). I'm not sure if that scoring output is still #2 in the country but it is obvious this kid can score. Jarkel appears to be highly skilled and a very good athlete for his size. On a side note, NMSU also recruited him but Barnes ties to Mississippi gave him (and CSUB) the edge.

Looking at Joiner's highlight video he plays with a swagger that reminds a lot like an ex-Aggie player... Jonathan Gibson.

This guy looks like a stud and the kid GCU got to me looks better than Dwayne Russell. Our kid looks like a stud too. The point guard at almost every WAC school are looking very very good. I think the key will be what school can have some skilled big men. Whoever can do that will win the WAC.

Related to my last post.. CSUB is struggling with Georgia Tech's length and size. This will be the first time the Roadrunners will be down at the half in the NIT (26-36). If the WAC is going to ever beat the P5 teams with some consistency, the WAC needs to recruit more quality size.

Georgia Tech's size and length was too much for Cal State Bakersfield (76-61)

WAC had one heck of a post season and with Grand Canyon not yet eligible. Bakersfield becomes the first #8 seed to get to NYC in NIT

Utah Valley makes the semi finals of the CBI winning twice on the raod before falling to Wyoming on the road by 6

UMKC makes it to the quarter finals of the CBI winning their opening game. Lost 2nd rouind to Wyoming.

That's 6-3 with only 1 home game played!

Yah, too much size.
(Almost went nuts watching this game. In the process of if selling my late father's house, so I probably took 10 phone calls from my sister during this game )
On the plus size, I was glad to see the fouls decrease. I'm not sure if this was our discipline or GT. The Hornets played good defence and it was obvious it has CSUB stymied and off their game. Hats of to GT and our mod here, GTS.

In the games I watched, announcers had praise for the WAC and painted it as a conference on the rise. Several schools got several mentions to a tv audience.

Wow! Even though not really WAC related anymore, anyone watching tbe beating TCU is putting on GT? I was hoping Tech would go all the way.

GT has been offensively challenged all year. All it takes is an off night from any one of the scoring sources (Jackson, Lammers, Okogie, Stephens) to put the game in serious jeopardy. You get two players off their game (last night Lammers and Stephens) and it all comes crashing down. They may not have looked like it against CSUB, but this is easily the least talented team I can ever remember GT basketball fielding. There is really only 2 or 3 ACC caliber players on the entire roster. Making things worse was careless and sloppy ball handling. This is why Pastner has been saying to big guard recruits they'll break the freshman shot record ... because GT is desperate for somebody -- ANYBODY -- who can shoot the ball well.
