Yet another former MAC coach scurrying back to the friendly confines of the MAC or some other mid-major conference. Just how many, at least in modern times (1970's or later), MAC basketball coaches have moved up and really succeeded in a big-time conference? I'll give you Jim Larranaga, former BG coach. Any others?

Herb Sendek comes to mind ... Eldon Miller??? ... FWIW ... don't know what your standards are, but Heath took two teams to the NCAA Tournament ... Majerus was pretty good after leaving Ball State ... Ben Braun ???

dannyb73, I don't know if you are serious, but if you are I would say "No". Outside of the MAC he has had one winning season in seven years and is a combined 55 games below .500, if I did the math right.

I guess sometimes hard to detect my sarcasm. Apologies.

I think JC is the perfect example of why the MAC does not rise above itself ... There is no question he can coach (although NCAA results ????) but he has twice jumped for the paycheck at bad jobs ... he's financially set for life which I guess is the bottom line ... but you have to wonder what his resume (and others like him ... Groce??) would truly look like if he/they had stayed a year or two longer before jumping ship???

No apology necessary, dannyb 73. I suspected you may well have been being sarcastic. I wonder what Christian's next MAC stop will be?

RE: Dambrot Leaving??
My feeling, and I could be wrong, is that actual "coaching" matters more at the mid-major level. Good coaching can make up - to a point- for not having a roster of really good collegiate players. At the big-time level, you really need to have the horses, to recruit the horses, to do really well.

Hmmm...

"During the regular season, Groce had only moderate success with the Bobcats, never finishing better than third in four years. His teams never were better than seventh in five years at Illinois"

I would argue that Waters was successful at Rutgers given that the team has had 3 winning seasons in the last 18 years and all of them happened under Waters' five season tenure.

RE: Dambrot Leaving??
From a KSU fans perspective. I like this hire. He was marginal at Ohio U so I'm not worried he'll do any better now. He was an embarrassment on the sidelines in those OU days. Maybe the Big 10 calmed him down a bit.

From a "making the MAC stronger" perspective, I don't think this hire did much there...

acorn lost the best coach they have ever had. Typical crap school lost him when he really did not want to leave. This replacement will just show them what they really lost. Nielson better be working on securing Sendy as we speak or we will be just as dumb. Do you like my beating around the bush?

9-2 in the MAC Tournament, 3-2 in the NCAA Tournament. marginal? sure, if you say so.

Good point but 34-30 in MAC regular season games is probably less than "marginal"...

Looks like Robatham is leaving as well. They quickly went from a logjam at PG to no PGs.
