I wonder if the AZ Bowl will be solo with CI or as article speculates, BeIn Sports will be partnering.

Sad...but it seem Sinclair didn't put a full effort to develop ASN especially with the stations they owned. They didn't have many games on the .1 channel.

Story is the Arizona Bowl was dumping ASN/CI anyway and is in negotiations with a new TV partner.

RE: The end of ASN?
We can hate on ESPN all we want but at the end of the day that's where casual observers go to get sports info.

C-USA failed - I believe - because of the deal that was signed with CBS Sports Network and Fox 10/12 years ago. The money was good at the time but it took C-USA out of the conscious of most sports fans. There is a reason why AAC (mainly comprised of former C-USA schools) went back to ESPN even thought they had relationships already built with Fox and CBS.

No different now. AAC got highlights on Sportscenter last nighter for their freaking quarterfinal games. C-USA semis with a top 25 team?? Not a peep. Will ESPN even give whoever wins the automatic bid tonight more than 5 seconds?

The answer must include ESPN even if we are forced to produce our own content. It's ridiculous you can watch every America East game and like-minded conference but you can barely find C-USA anywhere. We are getting killed due to lack of exposure.

I agree with your thoughts on this topic of TV coverage. All this coverage on several different outlets, but all of them combined still not providing adequate coverage. On top of that having all too often the need to not only find the coverage, but attempt to stream it onto the main household television is just frustrating at times. Many smaller conferences have better television packages and coverage than C-USA does.

No one watches Sportscenter for highlights anymore.....YOu get what you want to see on your phone, so no need for Sportscenter, its why ESPN has become desperate with The new SC6 crap now they are trying to brainwash us in...ESPN is losing money left and right, in 10 years they may not be the ESPN everyone was brainwashed into the power conference teams ESPN makes you believe are only ones that matter.....

Instead of worrying about conference as a whole, we need 2 or 3 schools in football and basketball to win a lot of games, get ranked and knock of power conference teams and become somewhat of a brand, only way to get exposure these days....I dont see any of these teams now get pub on ESPN besides championship games anymore then we do....ESPN is only about 4 conferences, ACC, SEC, Big 12 and Pac 12....After that they dont care, American will be on ESPN News if they keep sucking pretty soon....

I'm not so sure on that. The MAC board has been complaining about the ESPN contract killing attendance with all of the midweek games.

RE: The end of ASN?
ESPN is hemorrhaging views by the day. They are not the answer. C-USA needs to take back as much of our content rights as we can. There just isn't any money out there right now, and I think much of that is our own fault.

If C-USA is serious about trying to develop this conference into a top non-P5 conference, then we really only have two options.

First, as a conference we must change our scheduling philosophy. All of our programs must move away from the "Body Bag Game" model, and only schedule "home and home" series with P5 programs. I believe the home team's media partners hold the broadcasting rights for games. If that is true, then its no wonder our content has such little value.

Second, C-USA needs to approach national OTA network the CW, and gauge their interest in airing C-USA Saturday's (3 games), plus a Friday and Thursday night game every week during the college football season. The CW has garbage on over the weekend. If the CW isn't interested, then C-USA just needs to partner with beIN and create a dedicated 24 hour a day conference satellite/cable channel, where we broadcast our content from 6am to midnight, and run infomercials over night.

But before anything can be done, we need to fire MacLeod.

ASN is just re-organizing and will continue to work through Sinclair. Apparently they had poor management with no experience in sports broadcasting.

NBCSN seems to only care about the NHL. They dropped the CAA and Ivy League and I think the A10 will be next.

RE: The end of ASN?
People use watchESPN and use smart TVs to watch it.

UMass for football uses Learfield and ASN. Whats not clear to me is if Learfield produces and ASN is a distributor.

Quote:Announced by University of Massachusetts Athletics on Thursday, in conjunction with its multimedia rights holder, Learfield's UMass Sports Properties, a national television and digital distribution plan is in place for four football home games in 2016 via a partnership with American Sports Network (ASN).

For the Mississippi State, Tulane and Louisiana Tech games, all set for 3:30 p.m. kick times, ASN will partner with NESN to distribute in the New England market.

RE: The end of ASN?
I just noticed a new OTA channel pop up in my lineup called Comet TV and looked into them. They are owned by Sinclair and are in 72% of households (over 75 million available homes) and air Ring of Honor Wrestling and apparently will air ASN games. Could this be the regional OTA arm of the new Campus Insider / ASN joint venture or whatever they have planned?

RE: The end of ASN?
It would be AWESOME if CUSA's TV partner was available OTA in 100% of the conference footprint.

True cord cutters (those who use only antenna/OTA) have few options on fall Saturday afternoons. The options?
- 1 SEC/week on CBS
- 6-7 Notre Dame home games on NBC (roughly every other week on average)
- 1-2 P12/B12/B1G per week on FOX
- 2-3 ACC/P12/ACC/B1G games per week on ABC

Most weeks there are 3-5 games available OTA every week. I like the CW idea (or any other standard OTA channel). We're used to crap money...if we're gonna get pennies, then get pennies from a channel that can put you in every single household in America (or at bare minimum, the conference footprint). The SEC, CUSA, and SB are located in the most fertile recruiting ground for both college and the NFL.

For national broadcasts YES, its pretty much just them. Other than that you need your FOXSN affiliate for your local NBA, NHL, and MLB teams.
