ACC Tournament Telecasts
I live in Raleigh. Here, I have my choice of two ACC Tournament telecasts, one on an ESPN network and the other on WRAL, a local TV station, which receives a syndicated ACC network telecast. Gminski did color this afternoon. Bonner does it tonight. That's for EVERY one of the 14 games. This is done because the ACC Tournament is such a big deal in NC, probably more than many of you can imagine.

I'm curious. How many other local TV stations are broadcasting how many ACC Tournament games? My guess is that something like what we see in Raleigh would be the case in Greensboro and maybe in Charlotte and Louisville but elsewhere? Just the local team's games?

All ACC tournament games are locally broadcast over-the-air in Washington DC (WDCA) independent channel 20.1 (main channel, not a subchannel).

I believe in Pittsburgh they are all being broadcast over-the-air on sub-channels of the local ABC-affiliate WTAE channel 4.2.

All 14 of the tournament games are being broadcast on WFMY in Greensboro.

Tim Brando worked with Gminski this afternoon and Wes Durham (he sounds just like Woody) is working with Bonner this evening.

WFMY is a CBS affiliate and has preempted all CBS network shows to broadcast the tournament.

Thanks for the info.

Looks like BC, Miami and Notre Dame BB don't carry much weight in their local TV markets. Hey, if Pitt can get local broadcasts, why can't Miami?

I also live in Raleigh, and have only been able to get the tournament on WRAL (but not on ESPN or ESPN2). Is it on an ESPN channel I don't get? I don't mind having WRAL preempt all network programming to show the tournament because, for the most part, I haven't found anything on NBC worth watching anyway. I was glad when WRAL changed its network affiliation from CBS.

I've taught middle school for 30 years. Up until a couple of years ago pretty much every teacher showed all the afternoon games. We don't have TVs anymore.

Many ND fans consider basketball as something that fills up some time between football season and....football season.

Not many folks around South Bend care very much about ACC basketball, in general. Why put it on a local channel? Aren't the games on an ESPN channel or the ACC Network?

I haven't tuned in to see a single tournament game. If ND is one and done tonight versus Virginia, I won't see another one, either.

I'm guessing that in those areas with the most recent conference additions, there is no long term history of watching the games on OTA TV. Rather, ACC tournament coverage has always been exclusively on ESPN, as was coverage of the old Big East tournament. Stations in upstate NY, outside of Syracuse itself, and similar market areas for other schools, probably didn't see the value in competing head to head with ESPN.

Not TV related, but the Tar Heel sports network (radio broadcasts of Carolina basketball), has broadcast ALL of the ACC tournament games for as long as I can remember.

WHAS 11 (ABC) is airing the SF & I believe the final tonight. These 2 networks have shared Louisville ACCN telecasts as well. No SEC tournament here locally, its all on the SECN.
