You should have passed that on to Pearl a couple of years ago.

I spent most of my life, with very few exceptions (Tic), anxiously awaiting March Madness. Even when we weren't good, we weren't bad and I always thought we had a chance. Losing to St Louis, Michigan State and Virginia and not having but 3 or 4 really good wins over anybody the last 8 years has made this time of year depressing.

I hope that Tubby only gets year 3 ( 1 down, 2 to go) to prove he can recruit somebody.

I really think that we are as bad as we have been, or worse, in over 40 years.

And this irrational assumption is predicated upon what basis? The guy hasn't been here a full season yet. Is it factual evidence regarding Tubby's ability to recruit or hearsay by the miserables' hatred of the guy? Great coaches don't need all 5* recruits to win, ask CJP who had many 4 and 5* players?

Actually yes, Tubby has now had a full season.

If you were not happy making 4 straight NCAAs (no matter who the coach was) and feel good about waiting until '19 at best to make it again, I have so sympathy for you. I also live for NCAA tournament and I'm unhappy right now; I was very happy going to 4 straight tourneys.

It was kinda embarrassing getting destroyed on national tv for most of those years though.

Exactly

Do you just make things up on the fly? Tubby has been WELL compensated for at least 13 years. In 2003, UK gave him a nice raise to $2.5M and made him the highest paid coach in the country. He's made $30M since that raise. Not sure what he made before then, but it wasn't chump change.

Cal, Coach K, make that in 3 years. I guess you could say well compensated for a double digit loss every year coach. And we are overpaying the market by far for him and he is bitching about tough fans and "distractions ". Pisses me off for a $3M a year coach to complain about such.

He didn't skip town in Minny. He was let go. And the AD later admitted he was wrong about the treatment.

You are correct, thanks.

Few would be in the fetal position inside of a week of becoming HC at Memphis. This ain't his type of town nor his type of gig.

Lol. Right about that. We need a coach who is as mean as a junk yard dog. Like a Huggins type personality.

If I were him, I would leave at the most missoppertuned time I could, for finding a new coach.

There is a reason he didn't sign a contract.

Are you even a Tiger fan?

One of the few on here, apparently.

"Fans", have been treating the man like sh!t since he got the job.

Are people putting "for sale signs" in his front yard or egging his house. Are they going to the coach's show to heckle him?

How, exactly, are fans treating him poorly?

Not that I don't understand, but contrast fan support and comments with Pastner's first 10 months.

Wonder what Pearl has had to deal with at auburn for his first 3 years.

The tweet by one of the writers after the smu loss referencing this board.

These kids are having to listen to this ****, why would they want to play for Memphis?

Opie hangover is a big part of it.

Tubby's not a salesman. You have to ask for and work for support not just feel like you're entitled to it.

I'd bet nobody that matters is reading this board. If they are then they are in the wrong line of work.

RE: When am I going to enjoy this time of year again?
My opinion would be that we could all enjoy this time of year again if we were realistic about our individual expectations of the team.
For me personally, Christmas came in April of 16 when the previous coach left. Tubby was a great hire, to me, and I certainly feel we will be an ncaa tournament team as early as next year with Tubby leading the way.
I had zero expectations this year. None. I figured we'd be 20-15 ish give or take a couple of games and we'd have an upward trajectory for the next few years and then some under this coach. I'm optimistic for the future of the program under Tubby. He's a class guy, role model and a helluva PROVEN basketball coach.
I'm totally confident he will get players in here that he can work with and can improve. He's got a good recruiting class started and I'd bet he signs at least 2 more. I think the program is in great hands.

Dude. You said "Tubby has never made the big bucks that many coaches have". You were patently wrong about this. He's averaged over $2M for the past decade and a half. Just talking off the top of your head.

Absolutely. They call themselves Tiger fans. He said the expectations are the worst he's ever seen. Not even @ Kentucky, which has a winning tradition. This is horrible in every sense of the word. A few rotten apples, loud mouth miserables who can't get over their man crush on Pastner. Just freaking pathetic. Memphis will always be a small town, hill billy city as long as these small minded, hill billy psychopaths have a venue to spew their self-righteous idiotic bull****.

Regardless of the coach or the team's performance, I encourage everyone to contribute to the TSF and buy season tickets as means allow. Shortly after the SMU debacle I made my annual TSF donation and increased the amount a bit from last year. I figure the program needs all the help it can muster.
