Beach Volleyball Runs Winning Streak To Four
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW swept visiting Coastal Carolina by identical scores of 4-1 as the Seahawks extended their winning streak to four with a doubleheader sweep of the Chanticleers on Saturday at Dig & Dive Courts.
The Seahawks ran their record to 6-2 with the sweep while the Chants dropped to 0-3 on their young season.
"Despite some rain, we had a great turnout for our first home event," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "Sarah Kelly and Sydney Alvis were impressive with a pair of wins. Coastal Carolina had strong pairs in the first and third positions, so it was great to see our pairs earn a split of the day's matches at those spots. At the fifth spot in the second match, I was impressed with the strong and consistent play of Halle Hunt and Katie Smith. Overall, it was a great day for is."
In the opener, the Seahawks posted straight-set wins at the one, two and fourth positons while Courtney Mullinax and Bella Borgiotti rallied for a 17-21, 21-14, 15-10 win in the fifth position.
In the second dual, UNCW won the second through five positions in the lineup, but Nicole Lott and Tanna Aljoe took a loss to Natasa Savovic and Tahleia Bishop in the number one position.
The Seahawks compete at the College of Charleston Tournament on Mar. 24-25 against Mercer, Lincoln, Tuland and host CofC.
