NIT/CBI/CIT
What teams will get bids to the other 3 tournaments?

NIT: Bakersfield obviously if they dont win the tourny, but NMSU would still get the at-large bid I would assume unless they lose in round 1 or 2 of the tournament. How do Aggie fans feel about the chances of an at large NIT bid?

CBI: Part of me thinks SU will get a bid here. The last two years we have been in it with a sold out Connolly Complex in 4 CBI games. Last year I was shocked at the invite, but with a record slightly below .500 like last year, I could see another invite.

CIT: Has to be a 4th straight invite for GCU I'd guess.

UMKC could get a CBI/CIT/V16 invite too. We will see. The advantage for SU, just like last year, is the success the CBI has had there the last 2 years.

I mean the CIT is the only thing GCU can get, but we won't know until after Selection Sunday. I kinda feel like GCU might actually turn it down though.

I lowkey hope they do turn it down. Haha. Being totally honest, would rather have a shot at something like the Vegas16 (if it even still exists). That or close the book on 2016-17 & get everything pointed toward next year.

Yeah, but it would be nice to have actually won the thing before we go and say that we are above playing in the CIT

Well UNC-Ashville just was upset in round 1 of the Big South tournament. So NMSU will have some competition for the NIT at large if they dont win the WACt

The Vegas 16 still exits even if they only get 8 teams again. I'd like to see some WAC schools in that tourney. Perhaps GCU and UMKC will be part of that.

RE: NIT/CBI/CIT
Do you guys think the Vegas 16 errrr 8 is of higher value than the CIT? It's a year two tournament that couldn't even fill its allotment. I know it's Vegas, but... if GCU was going to play in any tournament I would want to them play in the CIT, one more shot to win it before they play in the NCAA tournament next season 07-coffee3

I would also be fine, if they said no and moved on to next season. I could see Majerle wanting to do this, but I think GCU's president would not turn down a chance to host a game or two in GCU arena. Or, maybe he's tired of paying the fee... Who knows really. Can't wait till next November!

Majerle said in his post game interview after umkc that they're going "to play in some tournament" after the season finale at Bakersfield

I would take the CIT if there was a wink, wink, nod, nod deal in place to get a cupcake road to the finals like Columbia pulled last year. They got a bye to the quarterfinals and literally never left NY. If not, turn the page and get to the business of 2017-18.

Yeah, you lose extra practice time, but they should be able to make it up with the overseas trip. Still curious to see if it will be Spain or Australia. Wishful thinking though, as I'm sure we'll settle for the CIT again. Maybe the 4th time is the charm.

Vegas 16 definitely has the potential to be and I think they will get there soon enough. They need to focus almost soley on western schools right now.

This year, invite:
(Presumably all schools in conference with better records will get NCAA/NIT bid)

2 P12:
Utah
Washington State
Arizona State
Colorado
Stanford

And the rest pull a mix of:
BYU
San Francisco
Santa Clara
UC-Davis/UC-Irvine
Anyone in MWC but AF or UNLV (unless you really dont care about team quality and go for UNLV)
NMSU/CSUB
Seattle U
Utah Valley
Eastern WA
Weber St
Idaho
Montana
Montana State
Portland State
Denver

Get fans there, get the tournament looking better and making more money, and you have something

RE: NIT/CBI/CIT
The consensus seems to be that these Power 5 conference schools have no interest in playing in any tournaments not NCAA or NIT. So I don't see the P12 schools or BYU entertaining any of those tournaments.

CBI gets high major schools every year. But we will see about Vegas 16.

High majors in the 8 CBIs:

Oregon State
Pittsburgh
Oregon
Washington State
Stanford
Virginia
Purdue
Texas A&M
Penn State
Virginia
Colorado
Texas
Cincinnati (even though I say AAC is high major now, went while member of Big East)
Washington

RE: NIT/CBI/CIT
Not in 2016. Nevada was the biggest name school. They are on the rise under Musselman, but I they are not a Power 5 school, nor really a high mid major school. 2015 you had Colorado.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE get GCU in a tournament with ASU! I don't actually think Dr. Crow would ever let it happen, probably forcing his staff to decline the invite to anything even involving GCU.

He can get away with it for one more year with V16 or other lower tournaments. No more running next year when we are talking NIT or NCAAs, though!

Yeah, the CBI has had problems getting P5 teams the last few years. I hope the CBI does not approach SU. Dollar needs to go.

Yep, i think the undeserved CBI bid last year is what saved his job. But we have a new AD now and we will see what direction she wants to go. I wish Dollar well and hope he rejoins Romars staff at his new school while "resigning" from SU.

Ran into a GCU assistant at the Region 18 Juco Tournament last night and he said that they will be in the CIT but will not be hosting 1st round because the students will be gone. JFYI

ASU is terrible this year. I've been to some games and they didn't impress me much.
