I don't know, I sometimes question if we can count RTP as Southern any longer.

Ha! I was in Wilmington the first 8 years of it, and will likely be back there in the next year or 2 tops.

RE: The South is Rising Again
It's time to bring in the history here.
Maryland was an important border state during the Civil War. Had it flipped to the Confederacy, the Union might have been lost forever. The northern and western part of Maryland favored the Union and the southern and eastern parts favored the Confederacy. Much like Lincoln's state of Illinois was split (hence the Lincoln-Douglas debates between the candidates who favored one side over the other).
Baltimore was an important city for the Union to secure, but the city resisted Union efforts (See: Riot of 1861, the first bloodshed of the Civil War). Still, the Confederacy could never take it either, because they didn't have enough Confederate sympathizers near the Maryland-Pennsylvania border. So even the city near Towson ended up in a stalemate.
So no, I don't consider Maryland, or Towson, as northern or southern. It's a "border school", not claimed by either side.

Which means it could be used by either side , here, the south is using it!

Anyways, I have to say I'm impressed with how Elon is coming along in basketball. When they were added it was clear they would help the CAA in baseball but I never thought they'd become a quality basketball program at this level, especially so quickly.
We've lost 2/3 times we've played in their place and now they have a new arena on the way. Charleston is the better rival for us for basketball/baseball but Elon is a worthy opponent too.

I actually think a new arena will help us there. I think playing in a middle school gym hurts us simply because we are not used to it.

At UNCW, I was informed by a student from Connecticut that North Carolina wasn't really southern.

Those kinds of people assume that the whole state is like Charlotte, Raleigh, Wilmington and Greensboro. They don't realize that outside of those cities there's this stuff called "farmland" that makes up about 95 % of the state, and is crucial for the state's economy.

Great place to watch a theatrical performance though. Really nice carpeting.

no kidding. I went to a small high school in the smallest division in Mass, and our gym held more people.

There is something to be said about us that they don't lump us in with Alabama and Mississippi type Southern descriptions... but they clearly don't understand American geopolitics if they consider North Carolina as part of the North.
For the sake of this CAA centric debate though...
The Southern schools are definitely on the rise, and it's good for the CAA. It's also bad for the CAA that the Northern schools aren't better (AS A WHOLE). Because it makes spending money on those Northern road trips fruitless.

let's be real is it easier to recruit to the beach in Wilmington, COC or the freezing cold and snow in Boston. I watched Brownell one time with several recruits on the deck at Oceanic on a warm April day and bikini's everywhere on the beach. Easy decision for a 17/18 year old.

In Philly you have to convince people they wont be the next John Davis while Drexel is a better option than Villanova, Temple, St Joes, UPenn and LaSalle...only partially kidding

Yeah that has to be tough, especially if they are being recruited by 2 or more of those schools. Kind of the same thing NC State deals with here, recruiting same kids as Duke and UNC.
