O/T: UofM Spent Like Crazy On Facilities
They are 240M in debt on athletic facilities. They apparently spend, spend and spend some more...
And this is even with big gifts.
"The University of Michigan athletic department sits atop $240 million in debt at a time when several major college athletics programs are grappling with enormous and potentially crippling debt loads."

We are now at the 'high water' mark for revenues from ESPN, etc. In 10 years, revenues might be flat or decline as cable TV revenues decline to ESPN and other content providers.
The MAC is set where they are on a long-term contract. That contract in decades ahead will not go up, I'd guess.

Only 23 million of that budget appears to be from Television revenues. That's out of ~$161 million. I get that it will decline but if it went away tomorrow they'd still have a football program.
Financials show a $9 million contribution toward principal each year presently.
I'd lend 'em.

Yes, they are no worse off than Mr. and Mrs. Smith who just bought a house and have a 250K mortgage.
U of M isn't in trouble but still too much debt.

If Mr. and Mrs. Smith made $161K, this would be a $240K mortgage with a $1,250 / month payment on a 30 yr am.
Where do I sign?

Yeah, but do these schools need to go from 100 --> 110K seats?
It would be more like Mr. and Mrs. Smith having a house worth 2M but only 5 or 6 bathrooms decide, they need 7 or 8 and need to do an addition...
Whatever floats their boat. Not money I'd spend.

Harbaugh also makes 3 million more than Saban and Meyer, which makes zero sense. UM also gave a bunch of assistants big raises this year, again for no particular reason. They finished 3rd in the Big 10, and those coaches were already among the highest paid in the country. Hubris and waste, plain and simple.

Jim Harbaugh has never won a conference championship in FBS football, yet some how makes that much more than Nick Saban? So bizarre. He's a fantastic recruiter, but the most overrated in-game coach in the nation, in my opinion. I doubt he'll even win the Big Ten East division at any point before scurrying back to the NFL.
