ouch

Andy Pepper tweeted "Sources.....". What sources, Andy? I'm not defending Fleck here but Pepper should come clean by identifying the "sources" or his tweet basically is gossip/bar talk.
If Fleck/Minnesota is proven to violate an NCAA rule (hard to prove) that he contacted Spillane before he officially withdrew from the WMU team, what course of action can the NCAA impose on the Gophers?

Probably hard to prove.

Also nobody reveals their sources. Stop with that. Pepper is a trusted media member.

Bull.

His "sources" could be his Aunt Edna and drunk Uncle Ernie.

If you can't name your "sources," you have no credible "sources." 07-coffee3

Pepper had a credible source when he reported Fleck was leaving before it was announced by either Minisoda or us.

I trust anything Pepper says. Has been around covering WMU forever and has great connections.

As todd would say, .000001% chance.

Spillane is a Chicago kid. He's not playing at GVSU.

I don't know how his grades are but I wouldn't rule out Notre Dame (maybe Purdue, NW, or Illinois).

I'm sure there's fire behind the smoke, regardless of where he winds up.

But still, I wonder if the tweets should've waited until Spillane announced his destination.

Unless he just really doesn't want to sit a year (and doesn't care about exposure) I don't see why he'd end up anywhere but FBS.

I agree.

Pepper wouldn't have tweeted that had he not had a strong indication of something. I wouldn't be surprised if there's more to this all that comes out later. I don't think this is over yet.

This is pretty interesting. I've heard a lot of reports about Minnesota even prior to PJ arriving that there was not a good relationship between the University and its athletics programs.

Really makes me wonder how PJ is going to like this kind of relationship where they are checking phones over Robert Spillane. PJ was very successful at Western. But, Kathy B is a part of that success. She gave PJ a lot of freedom and he rewarded her loyalty and trust. This doesn't portray a lot of trust. After Minnesota's past incidents, maybe this is the right approach for the University. But, this certainly isn't ideal for PJ.

This is probably pretty accurate. 03-lol

I was in the "indifferent" crowd on if I'll be pulling for him at Minnesota when he first left.

I believe I am now in the "I might watch Minny games now actively rooting for them to lose" category.

If Fleck initiated the contact, I am with you. That's wrong! 05-nono

However, if Spillane initiated contact with Fleck because he is not pleased with the changes at WMU, that is fair game. What's Fleck supposed to do? Hang-up on him? Tell him to stay where he's not happy? 01-wingedeagle

Likewise for the 9 recruits Fleck allegedly "poached" from WMU. If he initiated the contact, shame on him. But if the recruits initiated things, I have zero problem with that, other than being disappointed they are not coming to WMU.

There is NO WAY I believe that PJ didn't have contact with those 9 recruits he was ACTIVELY recruiting right up until he left... Its pretty certain at this point that he was obviously in talks with Minny well before the cotton bowl... and likely before the MACC.

He probably was before the Cotton Bowl. Doubtful it was before the MACC as the controversy that led to Claeys' eventual firing was in mid December.

I will bet you it was in mid December though, too much connection to when Kill was ticked off they fired Claeys and said in an interview they have been talking to his replacements since mid December, given Kill's past history with Fleck and friendship with Claeys, I'm willing to bet he was ticked off because it was PJ.
Plus the Minny AD wanted to interview Fleck for Syracuse.

I don't know. What good is checking his phone going to do. I'm sure the messages were erased as soon as he heard anything about it. Why would a coach keep that on his phone?
