Notre Dame is another transfer possibility.

Fun while it lasted

Quit acting like we don't have any other highly-talented young linebackers on the roster. Next man up.

I swear to god, if it is MN and Lester granted that release, all goodwill earned from his fight-song-singing kids is gone...

RE: Spillane out?
Don't know the situation yet, but if he is transferring to sit out a year and then potentially play one more year...That is an idiotic plan.

I wish him all the best, but I think he is making a mistake. He had a good thing going here. He was going to be the senior leader of this defense, all-MAC player, putting himself in a good position for a run at the NFL.

Oh well. Next man up. We've got a lot of young talent at the position.

If it's Notre Dame, I'll totally understand. It's every Catholic Chicago kid's dream to play linebacker for the Irish and he has done everything he set out to do at WMU.

If it's the Gophers, I will throw up in my mouth.

BC Enquirer reporting he can see field somewhere else right away because he was released from his scholarship?

Detroit News saying he has to sit out a year.

RE: Spillane out?
Well this just sucks... sounds very odd and equally oddly timed... maybe it just took him some time to realize that Lester and his coaching staff weren't for him... it happens every time there's a coaching change. Even the great PJ lost some older players when he took over here...

... next man up.

As long as it's not to join the video scout team.

if he was kicked out by his team i don't want him. i am sure we have players who can find out why they did not want him and that will get around, he will be more of a cancer then he would be worth. If it were the for the racial comments others have accused him of that will just make Western look worse when it comes out.

Yikes. Well that's a punch to the gut on defense.

Yep. 03-puke

Is it out of the realm of possibility of him following Pinkham to UMass? Not P5, but a nice New England location and fine school nonetheless.

So now you're all high and mighty questioning people's loyalty 6 months before Lester coaches his first game... yet it took you nearly 3 years to get on board with Fleck? That's rich. 03-lmfao

Lester has a demonstrated history of winning as a college HFC. Fleck didn't.

Fleck showed us a whole season of incompetence before most people started to doubt. That season was a kick in the face, we were one 2 point conversion catch away from going 0-fer, we got shut out on homecoming by BUFFALO, and every few weeks there was another meme making fun of some stupid thing Fleck did. Most of us were on board even after the 1st MSU game with Fleck, the Nichols state game and the rest of that year was what caused people to doubt. We have to give Lester at least the first year, then if he stinks you have every right to question, just like we did.

RE: Spillane out?
Tap the breaks people... As much as this is a blow to the team... at this point its not a sign of anything other than a player asking to be released for reasons that NONE OF US are in the know about...

Everyone thinks its the worse thing in the world for him to follow Fleck to Minny... I personally think that would be ridiculous and show some serious short sightedness for a senior entering his last year ... but hey if he wants to follow his fearless leader, who would blame him?

What if theres a more realistic personal reason he wants to head closer to home... or closer to a family member or girlfriend or who knows maybe he has a kid.... and wants to be closer to that situation. We all are so NOT IN THE KNOW I find it unnerving that everyone is so "sky is falling"...

As Lester has stated over and over again... if a player doesn't want to play for WMU... he doesn't want him on the team. Period. Apparently Spillane got to the point where for whatever reason didn't want to play for WMU anymore... or felt it necessary to move on... either or I am glad he has taken a stand and followed his beliefs for what was good for him... Its also apparent that if he stayed against his own feelings...we likely wouldn't have the same Spillane on the field...

Those who state that he's leaving because of a shift in defensive ideology are morons... there is NO WAY Spillane couldn't adapt to whatever this staff was going to do.... and if these coaches are worth anything... they would find ways to get Spillane in position to excel... Which leads me to believe its one of these things:

(in order of likelihood)

1. Something personal is attracting his attention and he wants to move on and handle that while playing somewhere closer to whatever that situation is....

2. He wants to follow Pinkham to UMass - and Pinkham has reached out to him and convinced him to leave.

3. He's lost the fire he was able to keep going under the constant Fleck-isms and Fleck energy and is having trouble connecting with this staff. Wants to follow his old leader even if it means moving on for only one last year.

4. Somehow he (or his Mom) got in Brian Kelly's ear and was able to convince ND to bring him in for one last year... even as a walk-on... to appease his Mom who desperately wanted him to NOT go to WMU when he signed for Fleck.

5. He wants to leave football altogether and try baseball with Tebow.

3. Even if his mom didn't want him to sign...look what he's already accomplished, and with one more year, could've become LEGEND here.

I updated the list to include the Pinkham situation that somehow slipped my mind...
