Yeah that seems to only hurt their conference.

I may be mistaken (not gonna go back and re-read stuff), but my impression has been that it's the NIT who does the choosing/selecting. They decide whether or not to take a team such as UNC-A in this case.

I read from a Charleston reporter that due to the way the SoCons rules are, if UNCG is playing ETSU or Furman on Monday that the loser is NOT guaranteed the NIT bid. The NCAA will only allow 1 champion to be guaranteed an NIT bid and the SoCon chose not to do that.

However if UNCG is playing anyone else on Monday they will be guaranteed an NIT bid if they lose. Conversely if ETSU or Furman play on Monday against anyone but UNCG then they too will get an NIT bid if they lose.

Its an interesting way to do it since the NCAA won't allow a conference to protect everyone and ensure at least one of their co conference champs gets an NIT bid. Ideally one of UNCG, ETSU, and Furman would win the SoCon and the other that went the furthest in the tournament would get an NIT bid but the NCAA said no.

Same with Big South, ideally if Winthrop were to win on Sunday UNCA would get the auto NIT bid since they were co champs. But NCAA said no and Big South chose to protect 1 seed Winthrop with auto NIT should they need it

Belmont losing hurts, that team could shoot. Watched them play in person a couple weeks ago against Moorehead State. That conference has had the top seed upset in like 5 straight tournaments or 4 of 5. That is rough for a 1 bid league, especially for Belmont who has been owning that conference since moving there

And the OVC does a double bye to try and protect the top seed

RE: Other Conference Tournaments
Illinois State's RPI is 30. They should be in. Look for them to be a 10 seed, which is better than being an 8 or 9.

Espn has them as last team in now before the power conference tournaments. They are going to have a long week. Between Illinois st, Belmont, and Monmouth there are some quality mids going to be left out

Oakland and Valpo co champs of horizon both lost their first game too. The midmajor top 25 teams are dropping like flies

With Monmouth losing yesterday, the MAAC has not had their top seed win their tournament since 2010 when Siena won their 3rd straight

RE: Other Conference Tournaments
Unfortunately I think Illinois State will be NIT. Just not enough there other than a high RPI. Their loss at Murray State will keep them out. There are too many power conference teams fighting for those spots and surely some of them are going to get a big win during their conference tournaments to push them over the top.

I agree. Similar to UNCW. High RPI and good records alone don't get it done these days.

dont know if anyone is watching this vermont game but they are in a tight one. Went 16 and 0 in their conference but in a tight one with Albany. Losing one conference game all year could keep them out, the cruel part of March Madness.
