Well, with Spillane leaving, I guess it's crickets no more. But I was hoping for good news.

For those in the know would he be able to play at a D1 school after sitting out a year? I'm assuming there no way he plays football at a D-1 school in the fall. Seems really odd to leave a team in the senior year. Did he have a difference of opinion with Lester that was so bad his only choice is to quit WMU football?

RE: Crickets....
He would have to get a waiver from the NCAA to play immediately at an FBS school. I *think* one of the reasons the NCAA grants waivers is for coaching changes though, so who knows.

No indication that Spillane is going to Minnesota. In all probability he's leaving the team due to repeat injuries.

Yes, a lot of them will.

If he was leaving for medical reasons, they probably would have just said that, instead they said he asked for his release and it was granted. That usually means the player is looking to transfer.
Usually the program that the player transfers from places some stipulations on where the player can go. The loss affects our defense big time, however, as long as he doesn't go to another MAC program, then it won't hurt us in another way. My feeling is he is going to Minnesota.
As for applying for a waiver to play right away, I'm sure he will, his injuries and missing a lot of his sophomore year might help his case. I don't know.

Tell that to NewSkool and PezQueen who are ready to blame it on Lester-new staff without any facts.
They are bailing on program already.

He's only 6' 2" and 218, which is light for a Big 10 ILB. I'm not sure Minnesota wants him, but-as I said-I wish him luck.

I was expecting us to lose more players in a coaching change, honestly. This one sucks but it seems like Lester has done a pretty good job getting buy in, at least early on.

Those listed weights are rarely accurate. I'm guessing he is more 230 ish, and regardless, he is good enough to play at Minnesota. You don't think Fleck will take him? He just took like 9 of our recruits, none of which have done anything near what Robert Spillane has done on a college field.

Well, I don't blame anything on anyone with no facts. You all taught me where that leads.

Heh, I prefer crickets.
Typically the only college football news one hears in late Feb/early March are defections or off-the-field trouble (see MSU).

Move on.
Popular ex-coaches don't disappear easily from message boards.
Matt Campbell's name didn't die easily on the Toledo board. Narduzzi/Pitt chatter still pops up on RCMB.
There were Illinois football game threads here as recent as 2015.
Not trying to delve into the Cubit vs. Fleck saga. It's just naive to think no one will post about Fleck anymore, pro or anti (and if Spillane goes to Minnie, you'll see some solid "anti"). There will obviously be posts in the fall referencing Minnesota's games.

agreed. Remember when we lost the MAC freshman of the year before Fleck's first year? This stuff happens.

I didn't see it as validation or adulation. I saw it as getting the name out there like it never has been before and turning the attention into some of the best recruiting classes the MAC has ever seen (on paper of course). My fear is that we are fading back into the mold of another MAC school fighting over MAC and in some cases GLIAC recruits.

Except, we have nothing. I guess I'm not a patient person...
An eye opening perpective on what it takes to comb through 1500 kids in the 2018 class. one challenge of being late to recruit and make up for the loss of top 9 in the 2017 class, is not being able to focus on the 2018 class until after NSD. So Lester and Co are now a couple months if not a full year behind other programs on prospective recruits for next year. It takes a great deal of time to watch video, make contacts with coaches, parents and players. So keep that in mind when we criticize why we don't have the contact with recruits that established regimes have. If anyone wants them to throw offers out at every 3 & 4 * within 6 hrs then don't complain when one runs afoul of the law. http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/2...l#comments
