A Republican congressman who aligned with President Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign called Friday for a special prosecutor to oversee the investigation into Trump associates' contacts with Russia.

Rep. Darrell Issa said on HBO's "Real Time" that Attorney General Jeff Sessions — who Trump appointed as the nation's top law enforcement officer — should not handle the problem.

I'm actually okay with this. The devilish details would be getting someone without a political agenda either way or trying to make a name for themselves...

Special prosecutor generally a bad idea. Trump shouldn't agree unless he knows in advance who it will be, and unless it's someone who will be trusted -- by both the pro- and anti-Trump sides -- to act in good faith. Such a person is difficult to identify.

I think it would be a good idea because it would likely put all the wacker out conspiracy theories to rest.

But even if it concluded that there was no Trump-Russia axis, posters like Mach and the Toms wouldn't believe it. Nor would all the other Trump opponents. So in that sense, why waste the time.

We have ample enough evidence for an investigation. If the situation were reversed I can't imagine what the discourse would be.

Where was all the concern for a special prosecutor for Benghazi, Fast and Furious gun dealings, the use of the IRS for targeting conservative groups, the Clinton Foundation, Clinton email scandal,etc. You libs were surprisingly quite about the need for those special prosecutors.

The Benghazi was not with a neutral investigation. You need a special prosecutor like what is being said here to look into it.

The IRS was also targeting left wing groups at the time as well.

And YES. If this exact same situation were in reverse there would be 4 house select committee investigations and Senate Select panels. Just look at the Benghazi fiasco.
