- UCF lit up the scoreboard against Siena in a 17-6 win for the Knights. UCF scored 10 runs in the first inning. The Knights sent 13 batters to the plate in the first after Eli Putnam started the inning with a lead-off home run. Ryan Crile added a three-run home run in the first to give Greg Lovelady his first win leading UCF.

- USF was down 4-0 in the eighth inning before exploding for nine runs in the bottom of the eighth. Shortstop Kevin Merrell, outfielder Chris Chatfield and DH Luke Borders all had two hits for the Bulls while senior Phoenix Sanders had eight strikeouts over five innings.

- Houston was led by pitcher Seth Romero who tallied 12 strikeouts over six innings, only surrendering one run. Left-fielder Grayson Padgett led the way at the plate for the Cougars going three-for-five with a triple and four RBIs.

- UConn picked up 5-3 opening day win behind a gem from starter Tim Cate. The sophomore gave up two hits over 7.1 innings pitched and struck out a career-high 13 batters. Catcher Zac Susi led the offense for the Huskies going two-for-four with a triple and a home run while driving in two runs.

- Cincinnati earned its first victory of the season with an extra-inning win over Northwestern State. Junior Connor McVey went three-for five with a home run in the top of the first and R.J. Thompson scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error by the Demons.

- Memphis fell to in-state rival Tennessee to open its season. Catcher Jason Santana went three-for-four at the plate with a double and an RBI. Sophomore pitcher Alex Hicks pitched well in relief for the Tigers, throwing the last four innings without giving up a hit and striking out five.

- No. 6 East Carolina fell just short against No. 22 Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. Dwanya Williams-Sutton started things off well for the Pirates with a lead-off home run and Spencer Brickhouse went two-for-four with a solo home run in the ninth. Evan Kruczynski went seven innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out six.

Good start. Now lets take these series. ECU needs to improve pitching today and tighten up the D in the outfield.

Unforced errors cost us the game. Ole miss has some good hitters.

I'm not sure which ranking we're using, but I've always preferred to just use the one for each one of our teams that has them the highest. They don't mean anything anyway.

Coogs beat Wake 5-4 to complete the weekend sweep.

It's probably too early to tell, but it seems like we have a lot more pop in our lineup than last year. Grayson Padgett hit around .800 this weekend. Starting pitching will be great with Romero, Ullom, King, and Cumbie, and we have a great closer in Fletcher. If we can find a couple of dependable set up men, we're going to be pretty good.
