So, you mean to say that we will "bitterly regret" allowing wonder boy to go to GT?, the same guy who was 5-26 against top 25, with no AAC championships, no sweet 16's, and no tournament period the past two seasons?? Just how and when does this "rueing" begin? I'll hang up and listen, this should be fun.

He doesn't know. That's all he's got. That and stuff about Tubby golfing. Safe bet he's an alias.

He was a terrible hire. But the President is an idiot so I am not surprised.

The fans don't care though, nobody comes to a game anyway. That Job should have been Pennys.

But Tubby is right on track. Hasn't had a single digit loss season since at Kentucky. Our President will be proud.

Most likely will have gone 20-10 (60-30 for 3 years). With our SOS for the next couple of years, that equals....not much.
Due to mediocre seasons, no NCAA appearances.
No recruiting energy or headlines.
Safe $$ is on: No

If there are no NCAA tourneys in 3 years, then no. Safe $ is on an NCAA appearance within 3 years. Still not sure that means he's here - or what it matters.

If there are no NCAA tourneys in 3 years he's not going to want to be coaching here anyway.

Letting JP go was good. He was done here. Hiring Tubby was a bad decision imo. Hired a well respected coach and "good guy". We needed a killer. We paid 3mil for a coach in his twilight. Smh.

This.

I can't agree with that until things play out more. I can only speak for myself, but I'm not going to say it's a bad hire prior to him proving it one way or the other. I feel like I can say with certainty that by the end of year 3 people can then make a determination on that. But for me, I don't view it as wise or fair to say so in the first year. I didn't do that to josh in his first year and I won't do that to Tubby either. Things have to play out first. I like to allow stuff to unfold before I start to proclaim the person is a failure. The reason I choose to do that is because I won't end up with both feet in my mouth and egg on my face looking like an idiot.

Wow. We will put you down in the category of..."I despise the hiring of Tubby Smith, and won't be caught dead watching or buying a ticket to see Tubby's lame old no coaching and TERRIBLE recruiting azz coach my Tigers, who I really don't give a rats azz about anyway!"

Tough crowd.
Tough category to be in.

Tubby will get us back to respectability within the next couple of years. It's amazing that it took most of you 5, 6, 7 years to turn on Wonder Boy but you're turning on Tubby 1 year in

They muffed Marshall and Buzz and it was all downhill from there.

I mean, Jeff Capel was getting traction. Jeebus.

Buzz is in year three and isn't doing jack at VT. If he was doing what he is doing there here in Memphis in year three, people would want to run him out on a rail. The idea that Buzz is or was the savior is bogus. Now you may have a point with G. Marshall.

Who said he was the savior? All I said was that they muffed it - and they did.

As it is - at VIRGINIA TECH (read that again just for emphasis) he is vying for an at large in his third year playing in the ACC.

He would also recruit better at Memphis than either VT or Marquette, purely on default - not a lot of Mickey Ds/Top 100 players wandering around Milwaukee or Blacksburg - certainly not per capita like Memphis.

Folks want to play the transitive property game, but some programs are easier to win at and recruit to than others - and that's even outside of the blue-bloods...it's the rare, rare coach who can transcend in a way - Calipari, Pitino, etc.

Buzz would've be a homerun - his last three years at Marquette were Sweet 16, Sweet 16, and Elite 8.

Tubby may be a homerun too. Who knows - this season is certainly trending like his previous decade at Minnesota and Texas Tech - double digit loss season, slow recruiting overall, and not the postseason fans desire.

I agree with some of your post about Buzz. That said I like Buzz, heck there are several coaches I like and would be fine with being the coach here, and I'm picky, I'm hard to please. I'm a season ticket holder so no matter if it's Tubby or Buzz or whoever, they have to win on a high level to please me. I stand by my statements about Buzz, he's in year three and isn't tearing it up. He barely beat wonder boy on his home court. Tubby is in year one and if year three is going like year one, I for one will be pissed.

We do - he's just young and flawed and will need to work on his game this summer.

Last year he was yo-yoed on his minutes and played 13 mpg. This year it's up to 34 mpg.

His assist to turnover ratio has been 2-1 both years.

I think they had a shot at Buzz, and he would have been fine. The proof wouldn't come until he started winning though.

Had no shot at Marshall or Archie. They were turning down offers at Alabama, Florida, Texas. Those were internet dreams.

Probably right, but I do think Marshall was interested more than usual.

I think Penny lane put it best (weather you like him/her or not). He pound-dribbles the ball for 25 seconds and then panics. I didn't know he was a Soph. He should have WAY better court vision and timing passes to cutters by now. I can't tell you the number of times I am screaming at the TV "HE'S OPEN! Dedric was OPEN! What are YOU DOING!!!!!"

Paz had the #3 recruiting class for year 2. There was excitement and a belief that he could keep what X had going at least to some extent.

Tubby is starting with a worn out, disenchanted fan base that was already tired of mediocrity before he got here.

I'm not that plugged in. I sometimes forget there's a game and pretty much expect to lose to a good team. Just not that much to be excited about. What does the recruiting class look like? Is it even going to be a top 30 class?

Gumdrop undid everything that X had built up and Tubby just doesn't excite a fan base.

Pastner's early recruiting was helped by how high Cal had built the program. Cal was gone but Memphis was still a default school that top recruits put on their lists. We will probably never get back to where Calipari had us but Tubby should have the program at its historical level within the next few years. Before Cal got here we weren't consisently bringing in top classes. People need to remember that when evaluating Tubbys recruiting. Compare Tubby to Memphis not Cal
