For that matter, we didn't win the game. But good times none the less. We can get back to that, and we will.

Nothing is guaranteed and I seriously doubt Tubby has the drive, focus, and d edgy to put a top 10-15 team on the floor.

If it happens I think it'll have to be under a different coach.

If he has the kids he can coach them to be a threat...But can he get the kids...

We may be counting on Penny and Lawson to deliver us the goods in recruiting.

It all depends on the local Memphis HS basketball talent level. Our best players almost universally have come from Memphis or the immediate area, with the exception of DRose, CDR and Joey Dorsey.

CJP's big out-of-Memphis gets were Shaq Goodwin and Will Barton. Tic Price was dreadful and Larry's big gets were from Memphis as well.

Was there something else we were counting on Keelon to do that I didn't know about?

If you want win, you get guys like this. You don't rely on Memphis talent.

It will take a long time. People found other ways to spend their time and $ in the past couple of years. I literally watched it happen from my seats

As recently as Louisville and SMU very late in 2014, the place was jumping. Check YouTube.

Just a bit of a reality check.

Memphis will never play for the national championship in football.

Never.

Just a bit of friendly advice, you shouldn't post about reality checks. Or reality in general.

I agree....but what are the chances of Tubby getting those kinds of guys to Memphis?

DRose types of players won't go to Memphis, he went for Cal (I know, Captain Obvious). CDR really, really improved over the course of 3 years and Joey did as well. I could potentially see Tubby maybe landing a CDR and/or a Joey, but it's going to be tough if there are not from the Memphis area.

Cal was really, really good at getting us on ESPN. Even when we were going to NITs, we were still on ESPN. That type of exposure is very helpful for recruiting out of state, etc.

And let's not forget WWW either.

CDR and Joey Dorsey weren't highly sought after if I remember correctly. Hate to water down your point because we did bring in big big talent in those days: Shawn Williams, D-Wash, DeJuan Wagner, Amari Stoudamire was commited then went to NBA, etc.

But everyone of those players came because of Cal, it's that simple. The big time out-of-state talent that comes TO Memphis that is not Cal related is a pretty short list.
