MyBB At Some Point C-USA Basketball Tournaments Need to Return to El Paso
With the tournament being in Birmingham for the third year in a row, at some point the C-USA Basketball Tournaments need to return to El Paso. Besides Birmingham, El Paso is the only other city who has shown they support the tournaments. It's understandable at this point that Birmingham being central would be allowed to host it back to back to back, but it needs to be moved around. El Paso besides Birmingham also bid for the tournaments for the next two years........meaning that El Paso will be a strong consideration to host the tournaments again either next year or in two years. Western Kentucky fans I believe are the only current league members not to experience the basketball tourney in El Paso.

It needs to be brought back to El Paso eventually.

I've heard it's down to El Paso and Birmingham for next year.

Yeah, it's not really fair to give it to the same school every year. You have a much better chance of winning when you're basically playing at home. They should at least alternate it between the top three or so schools attendance-wise.

Average attendance for the 2016 season from ncaa.org...

UTEP - 7,385
ODU - 7,037
Marshall - 5,473
MTSU - 5,183
UAB - 4,945
Charlotte - 4,667
LA Tech - 3,855
WKU - 3,671
USM - 2,993
Rice - 2,204
UNT - 1,979
FAU and FIU - 1,149
UTSA - 1,072

UAB shouldn't get to host it every year for no other reason than they just happen to be fortunate enough to be in the right location geographically. Just my opinion.

The difference with Birmingham is that it's not on UAB's court, at least.

How about we just let the Texas schools form their own conference or go elsewhere (you guys brought this up, not me)? Texas schools will be for putting it at UTEP over UAB; probably everyone else would prefer it at UAB. UTEP has a much larger home court advantage than UAB would given that basically no other school would have fans show up in El Paso.

Just another item on the growing list of reasons why it makes no sense for all of us to be in the same conference.

Question, why doesn't C-USA just strike a deal with an NBA arena to host the tournament annually? Atlanta wouldn't be terrible as you could get a direct flight there from pretty much anywhere. Memphis wouldn't be terrible as it would be a drivable distance for more and shouldn't be terrible to fly in and out of.

Know El Paso has a great venue and Birmingham should not be our permanent tourney site. Need to rotate the postseason (both MBB and WBB). Really wish we could get the tourney into Nashville at either Bridgestone or the Old Municipal Auditorium, occasionally. With the SEC dominating Bridgestone, and OVC playing at Municipal, I wonder if Murphy Center would be a realistic option at some point.

If the tournament is going to be played at a "neutral site" it shouldn't be played on a teams home court. Yes, hosting the tournament in Bham gives UAB an advantage but playing at the Civic Center isn't the same as playing at Bartow for the Blazers. If games are going to be played on a teams home court then the highest ranked seeds should host the games, which would probably work best in this league anyways.

I wish we would play the tourney at the highest seed. Reward for the season and also gives the best chance of our best team winning it all.

As much as I agree with that, I think it would be a logistical nightmare. Plus CUSA seems to have fallen in love with keeping men's and women's tournaments in the same cities.

If there were any change, I'd be down for the higher seed hosting, but that's a lot more travel expenses, and you'd have to give at least a full day between games right? That's a lot of travel for a lower seed that pulls an upset.

I just don't see the CUSA tournament working at a neutral site. I'm fine with UTEP hosting, but they'll have a better advantage than UAB does in Birmingham since it'll actually be on their home court.

Nashville would be great, but the SEC is there. What about Charlotte?

Hell half the conference has never been given the opportunity.

I don't know if Rice, USM or Marshall have ever hosted, or even ever desired to and I don't believe UTSA, FAU or FIU would be a good choice(apart from for the destination/weather), but I believe any of Charlotte, MT, or ODU would be great choices.

Western would support it, especially if they get their program turned around, but Bowling Green may leave a little to be desired as a host city. Not that Murfreesboro is considerably better, but Murfreesboro is nearly double the size and is half the distance from Nashville for the purposes of travel as well as possibility of including it in your trip. I'd be fine doing a joint hosting effort with them in Nashville.

I think Tech could probably host in Shreveport and UNT could probably host in Denton or DFW.

SEC moves around I believe, Nashville and Atlanta at least.

As a cash strapped conference, the reality is whoever puts up the biggest bid to host it will win.

Why not somewhere in the vicinity of Biloxi, Mobile or Pensacola?

Soon as the VB/Norfolk Arena is built we'll throw our name in the hat as a location. Until then we can't host mens and womens simultaneously.
