You have a much better chance of winning when you're basically playing at home. They should at least alternate it between the top three or so schools attendance-wise.
Average attendance for the 2016 season from ncaa.org...
UTEP - 7,385
ODU - 7,037
Marshall - 5,473
MTSU - 5,183
UAB - 4,945
Charlotte - 4,667
LA Tech - 3,855
WKU - 3,671
USM - 2,993
Rice - 2,204
UNT - 1,979
FAU and FIU - 1,149
UTSA - 1,072
UAB shouldn't get to host it every year for no other reason than they just happen to be fortunate enough to be in the right location geographically. Just my opinion.
Put in a competitive bid.
I have no problem with UTEP hosting. Let's do it. Bring on Nashville too. I'm in.
I put in my competitive bid but unfortunately the people in charge at Bham have more resources than me and my 4 year degree salary.

Municipal Auditorium, here we come ?
We could now end the season a week earlier and then not have to worry about going side by side with SEC most seasons, works for me! Municipal is about the perfect size for our conference, 9k seats....

Southern miss has bid in the last couple of years. The problem with our situation is the lack of a 2nd facility for the first 2 days of the womens.

Coming from ODU, traveling to Birmingham wouldn't be much more difficult or expensive than traveling to Nashville.
But I'm with you on El Paso.

But compare the two cities. Nashville has a lot more stuff to do than Birmingham... No interest whatsoever to go to B'ham except for a GREAT team playing...

You're not giving Birmingham it's due. It may not be Nashville, but there is fun to be had in the Ham.

If the OVC is out of the Muncipal Auditorium, I say Madam Commissioner needs to jump on this and immediately for 2018. There may not be another Good Opportunity for CUSA to come into the IT City:pbjtime:in this decade.

Love me some Birmingham. Nashville is on a level of its own these days but personally I love spending a few days in the Ham.

It WILL be back in EL Paso eventually because El Paso has shown they can support it. From my experience at both tournaments in El Paso in 2011 and 2014 YES THERE WERE fans from the Eastern Coast teams who made the trip to El Paso. Western Kentucky fans have yet to experience the basketball tournaments in El Paso, they will eventually............

If you make down for the CUSA tournament, Birmingham also has a Hattie B's.

It's not Nashville, but Birmingham may surprise you. City has really turned a corner in the last 4-5 years.
But I've never really understood the "lack of stuff to do" argument. Isn't the purpose of going to a basketball tournament to, you know, watch basketball? As long as it's in a reasonable travel distance, I don't care if the tournament takes place in a town of 2,000 people because I have like 14 basketball games to watch. If you go to all the games, Friday night is the only open night.

Thank you sir and thanks to the other posters for the kind words about our city.
Also, if Birmingham does host again next year, Top Golf should be open by then next to the arena.

Top Golf is also opening in El Paso this year but about 2.5 miles up I-10 from UTEP. Wherever the tourney is next year I hope the host team is doing well so that attendance is good.
