Definitely impressive - and I absolutely agree with the "More ammo for Aresco" in ongoing/future (re)negotiation.
But let's keep it in context, too:
That 0.9 rating, 1.2 million viewers was highest-rated, most-streamed etc...and got more viewers than exactly ONE AAC bowl game this season. More viewers than the Monday afternoon in the work week BEFORE Christmas.
But, but, but, there are way too many bowls and everyone hates them! Well, the mwc's easy-to-mock Potato Bowl did worse than WIN #100. And the mwc's Arizona Bowl isn't rated by Nielsen. But the recently folded Poinsettia Bowl? Double the viewers. The SWAC-MEAC Celebration Bowl on 17 December? 2.7 million viewers.
Please don't think I'm being negative - great inventory to be part of the negotiation even if only to retain third tier rights. Still out-drew lots of other examples - Navy-USF ESPN2 Friday night, mwc championship, cusa championship, I think EVERY Tuesday-Wednesday night MACtion game. I just hope decision makers in Storrs don't use that as a springboard to drop football to FCS/indy in a basketball-driven move to the Big East.
