Playing the UNCs and Wakes of the world is the quickest and most reliable way to achieve these goals. What does it matter if we lose some revenue in the short term if it means more growth in the fan base and larger donations in the long term. As far as I'm concerned Gillin is doing exactly what needs to be done to secure our fanbase for years to come, now its time to renovate and expand the stadium before these teams come to Boone.
Strategic view point should win out. Decisions aren't made based solely on cost versus revenue. It seems Arkansas State has a different issue which is fan support in general. It would appear that Arkansas State games are social events rather than the need to support a program for the population. UCA sells out but Miami, who has won five national championships, doesn't?
Tickets to UCA were less than $20 I believe... Cheapest ticket for Missouri was $55.
We don't have so much of a problem with fan support as much as the problem is our fans have been spoiled over the course of our history. In turn, they think paying more than $20 for a ticket is too expensive.

That seems more like an economic problem. If people aren't willing to pay $50 a ticket it is because they don't value the experience enough to pay that much. It could also be that $50 is out of many in that areas price range. I don't know what the job market looks like in the surrounding area but I would imagine it isn't as solid as other schools who are still able to sell out regardless of ticket price.
Unemployment rate in Jonesboro was, at last check, lower than everywhere else in the state. Remember, we're surrounded by basically 60 miles of nothing on all sides. There's not a large population to build from to begin with.
You have to understand that our previous Athletic Administrations idea to bring lots of people into games was to offer tons of free tickets.
We're trying to convince a casual ticket buying base that not only will they no longer get free tickets to all our games, but they now must pay 50 bucks a pop. It's a hard sell.
Remember, rivalry games are almost non existent in Arkansas. It's a lot easier to drag in casual fans with the offer of 20 dollar tickets to watch two instate football teams play, than it is to pay 50 bucks to play an ACC team. I think it's entirely possible that we have more people for UAPB than Miami this year.
