There’s one more thing that will endear Tobler to UC fans: Even though he grew up in Kentucky, he’s not a UK fan.
“My mom’s whole side of the family is,” Tobler said. “They’re crazy UK fans. I can’t do all that. I just never liked them. Everyone around me liked them. I couldn’t stand them. My dad’s whole side of the family grew up UC fans. I tended to go towards my dad’s side of the family.”
That begs the question: What if UK had asked Tobler to walk on and UC hadn’t? Would he have gone to Kentucky for the chance to play Division I basketball?
“Nope, not a chance,” he said. “I would just rather have gone to school somewhere else and not played.”
