@UHCougarMBK sits in third place in the #AmericanHoops standings and it has a lot to do with these three stars

While the backcourt has been solid all year and they are shooting well, Houston's achilles heel is the front court.

Which is why Devin Davis (given his injury) may be the most impactful player of the season.

Houston was 6-1 when Davis got hurt 3 minutes into the Arkansas game. He came back and played 10 minutes in a win at USF but got injured again.

Without him, we lost to Arkansas, Cincy, SMU, Harvard, Memphis and UCF.

He came back in the Temple game, and we are 4-0 with him back in the lineup.

So, the Coogs are 10-1 with Davis healthy the entire game. In those 11 games, he's been our best front court player, averaging 10.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and shooting slightly over 50%.

We are 8-6 without Davis or with him leaving the game early with injury.

He changes the whole front court rotation for us.

Updated Feb 23:

Houston 10-5
One tough game @ Cincy
Pivotal game @ Memphis

UConn 9-6
Two tough games vs SMU and Cincy

UCF 9-7
One tough game vs Cincy

Memphis 8-7
One tough game @ SMU
Pivotal game with Houston

Tulsa 7-8 (assuming they don't blow their home court halftime lead vs. USF)
One tough game @ SMU

*************

Houston at Memphis is the last challenger vs challenger game in the season, although each of the challengers still has at least one game left vs Cincy and/or SMU.

Houston holds the tiebreaker over UConn and Tulsa, having swept the series. Likewise, UConn holds the tiebreaker over UCF and Tulsa.

Yeah and TDECU is not named for East Carolina football scoring a touchdown. It's just a joke, relax.

With such a young team (only losing one player), we are hoping for any kind of post season. A one and done NCAA tournament might not be the best thing for their developement. Its all about the extra practices imo.

I think if Memphis loses to Houston and SMU then you finish 9-9 and UCF finishes 10-8 so there won't need to be a tie breaker

If Memphis beats Houston and both of us finish 10-8 then I think Memphis wins the tie breaker because you'll have the best record vs the highest ranked team. We're both winless against UC/SMU, but Memphis would have a better record against #3 Houston.

So there's a lot riding on the Houston @ Memphis game. It will decide the 1,2,5,6 seeds

Anyone know off hand who would get the tie breaker between Tulsa and Memphis if we both finish 9-9? Because I think that's a very real possibility at this point.

Updated Feb 26:

SMU 15-1
Have Tulsa and Memphis at home
Prediction: 17-1, 1st seed

Cincy 14-2
Have Houston at home and @ UConn
Prediction: 16-2, 2nd seed

Houston 11-5
One tough game @ Cincy
Home vs. ECU
Prediction: 12-6, 3rd seed

UCF 10-7
@ USF
Prediction: 11-7, 4th seed

UConn 9-7
One tough game vs Cincy
@ ECU
Prediction 10-8, 5th seed

Memphis 8-8
One tough game @ SMU
Tulane
Prediction 9-9, 6th or 7th seed

Tulsa 8-8
One tough game @ SMU
@ Tulane
Preduction 9-9, 6th or 7th seed

Temple and ECU battling for 8th seed.

*************

Strong wins by UCF and Houston today bring clarity to the picture. Houston's magic number is 1 over UCF and UConn for 3rd. SMU's magic number is 2 over Cincy for first.

I'm not sure who wins the tiebreaker for 6th if Memphis and Tulsa both finish 9-9 because they split their series. Anyone know? It will affect who Houston and Cincy likely face in the quarterfinals.

If UConn knocks off Cincy and finishes 11-7 with UCF, UConn would get the 4 seed because they have the tiebreaker by sweeping the series. Not that it matters. Either way, they still play each other in the quarterfinals.

Memphis wins tiebreaker
