Dan Patrick and his boys are in Houston for the Super Bowl and were at the UH/UCF game to satisfy a bet the Danettes lost. They had to dress as cheerleaders and lead a cheer at a college bball game. IMO they got off easy because they got to do it at Houston.

Now I know UH's basketball attendance has been called out plenty on this board, but after watching the above video I feel compelled to post. Watching that video, and quite frankly any televised game at Hoffheinz, is embarrassing. It would be really great if you guys could pull yourselves together down there. This league NEEDS you.

I know pigskin is King down there, even bigger than that I'm sure. I get it. But you're telling me that in a metro of over 6 million people, your athletic department can only manage to get ~1,000 people in the building for a game featuring two of the better teams in the conference?? The reported attendance was 3,681 but we all know actual is never close to what's reported.

Now I know many of us Cincy fans were pretty unbearable when this league was born, but I think it's safe to assume that most of you can empathize with how we felt having worked so hard to get where we were only to have the rug pulled out from under us. We have A LOT of pride in our city and University. Not just our football or basketball or baseball teams. Your basketball team is 16-7 (7-4), has one of the most noteworthy coaches in our league, and is apart of a program that has a pretty rich history of success. We need you guys...The American Athletic Conference needs you guys to help carry the torch of this league. A good start would be showing up and supporting your university. And so I plead to all Cougar fans:

Come the f*** on!

Man I'm out of breath...slow Friday at work 03-wink

But in all seriousness, does your AD do ANYTHING to help get butts in seats for basketball games? I feel like it should be easy to average 5,000 a game with a program like that in a city that large.

Did you see the rockets vs hawks game on TNT last night?

Houston is a football town. Specifically an NFL town.

The only way UH will have great attendance for football and basketball is if we are nationally relevant.

This is not new. This will not change. Move on

I am not a huge basketball fan.. but college basketball games are a lot of fun to attend...and it is a cheap date. UCF has similar attendance issues to Houston and I don't understand it.

I'm not asking for great attendance...I'm asking for 5,000. And it's more about the university itself. Put some fans in that gym, maybe more local kids wanna come play there, and the program can become nationally relevant again.

You mean like transferring out of a top public business school to come co-op at UC, being apart of the steady climb of UC's academic profile over the last 10 years, attending all the football and basketball games I'm able to, being a good ambassador to my university, and giving back when I am able?

Is that what's so funny?

Attendance talk is a waste of time when a program isn't a top program.

I don't get the point of showing that picture with no context. I do know however that UC averaged 96% capacity for football attendance this year..A year that was the fourth consecutive of a steady decline on the field, and one that ended with our coach being fired.

Not sure when that was from or what time in the game it was taken but that is isolated and does not happen often anymore.

Houston basketball attendance is always bad. Even when the team is pretty good like they are this year.

The Houston fans got behind the football team but evidently they just don't care about basketball at all. It doesn't look like it's going to change so there is no point in worrying about it I guess.

And it's not just Houston - Tulane comes to mind, though they have an excuse - their team is having a poor season.

It just looks bad for the conference when you see these games on tv and nobody is there.

That was the 2nd half of the Memphis game ,thankfully the final Nippert game of the Tommy Tuberville era , where the 26k that were there, collectively left to have a beer after falling behind 24-0 at half .

We have a new term at SMU that the coaches hate. Its called being war crimed. It's applicable when Navy and/or Memphis are up by 50 at the half

that's me - the white dot in the yellow circle. to be fair there was a fair crowd at the start that bailed at halftime. the game wasn't good, the temp was dropping and light rain was falling in front of a big storm that rolled through town about 20 minutes after the game ended. that pic looks taken deep in the second half.

Nope. Our AD has done very little to spur current attendance. They seem content to wait for the 60 million dollar renovation of our basketball arena to jump start attendance when complete in 2018. I think they should be doing things to generate student attendance right now--but beyond one game with a student tailgate (that was well attended), the AD has done nothing to spur student attendance. I think it's criminal that the AD does not have multiple programs designed to lure a captive on campus student audience of nearly 10K to the games.

Attendance is the lamest smack topic. The Houston fans here - the most ardent - have no more responsibility for Houston's attendance than Cincy fans have for defeats suffered in football recently.
