The Big 12's secret plan
From Camel at Sea on Shaggy:
If the TV money dries up, or evens out on a more permanent basis, then the Big 12 should try to lure Mizzou and Arkansas away from the SEC (where neither are a great fit culturally, historically, financially, or geographically.) I think you could make the argument that the SEC is bad for both competitively, too. Both schools fit the Big 12 in all of those respects much better whether their respective fanbases would admit it or not.
If the TV money never really dries up, or evens out, then the Big 12 probably breaks up at the end of the current TV deal.

RE: The Big 12's secret plan
I've always understood why some Arkansas fans have wanted to be in the Big 12 due to geography. Outside of that, neither Arkansas nor Mizzou belong in the Big 12.
Historically speaking, no one belongs in the Big 12. The dern thing is only about 20 years old.

RE: The Big 12's secret plan
Per an old news arty, Arkansas AD Frank Broyles did talk to both the Big 8 and the SEC prior to leaving the SWC. Said the SEC was more interested in the hogs than the Big 8. Heck, Frank even told Texas and Texas A&M to hurry up and join them in the SEC.

Arkansas is right where it needs to be. You guys just need more neighbors.

Years before Arkansas left the SWC, the Hogs flirted with the Big 8. I remember seeing a photo in Sports Illustrated of a T-shirt that read: Arkansas-Big 8 Champs.

It was Nebraska that blocked Arkansas.

Arkansas doesn't want in the Big 12. ( No one does ) But that doesn't mean that we wouldn't want to be in a conference with Oklahoma and Texas.

Thanks Hawg, I wasn't sure what stopped the process.

Funny thing. Nebraska was worried that it would hurt the Oklahoma-Nebraska rivalry game.

I think you need a history lesson regarding Missouri, X. That said, neither SEC school would go to the Big XII. Why would they ever consider that? They both left messes like that. I think Carolina to the Big XII might solidify the conference.

Medic, there is no doubt that Carolina could move the Big 12 to the top in one fell swoop.

Why don't we just move Arkansas, Missouri, Texas & Oklahoma to the ACC?

We want nothing to do with anything west of the Mississippi.

I would rather move Florida State, Georgia Tech, Clemson, and Louisville to the SEC.

Hog fans would love to have yearly games against Texas again. Adding the Sooners would be nice too.
