O/U Lester Career Wins at WMU
Over/Under is 64

Is there any reason to think given the situation he is inheriting, his commitment to the program and his ability he won't get at least 65 wins and become the all time winningest coach in program history.

I'll take the over.

Easy. I'll take the under.

Let's say he wins an average of 9 games per year. That means he'd be here for 7 years without getting plucked away. Highly unlikely.

If he wins less, well we know what happens...

RE: O/U Lester Career Wins at WMU
I will go with the over.

Currently getting paid better or comparable to a big5 coordinator or bigger group of 5 (Cincinnati) so he would not jump for that. He truly does have a love for western and would need a very good offer to leave. 800k a year gives you a great life in Kalamazoo. If he does win like PJ and puts us in the picture for major bowl each year, alumni may come up with some PJ like offer after a few years. Tim would not have taken the Minnesota job if the same offers were on the table.

First 3 years he will not get much looks from big 5 because people will think he is winning with flecks guys, so we have a few years before WMU starts upping the base salary. Remember that western is paying at the bottom of the MAC for salary with the 280k or so they have invested. That can go up and keep the Alumni money and get him to $1M in a few years.

Are we going to play USC or the like every year?

I'll take the under. I think he will be here 5 years. Either he will do well and move on or crash and burn and be fired.

I'll go with Odd instead of Even. Makes about as much sense as predicting how many games he'll win. On a good note, this is a thread I won't have to waste time reading any more.

Include Lester's 39 wins as WMU QB and assistant coach, and I'll say over easily. Include just Lester's 24 wins as WMU QB, and I'll still say over.

If we're talking head coaching wins only, though, I'll take the under.

I know, but if we're going to play a USC or an Ohio State every other year (instead of Illinois or Purdue, e.g.) will definitely influence a coach's record.

if anyone were to stay and build a dynasty, it'd be him. But... money is a hell of a drug. I just hope we're in the position in a few years to worry about him leaving.

If Lester wins a lot of games here I just hope it isn't a situation where he is a game or two either over or under 500 each year, and Kathy keeps him on because she loves him personally, or that he has one decent year, followed by a few lousy years, in a repeating cycle, and thus stays on by the hair of his chin. Shades of Jim culhane would suck.

I'll take the over.

I could not care less how many career "wins" Lester gets. It is the kind of wins, and how they are won, which is important.

Is WMU regularly competing for championships under Lester's lead (Cubit-like mediocrity is not acceptable 05-nono)?

Is WMU beating Central Michigan (Fleck owned the Chippewas 04-rock. Cubit lost 5 straight 03-puke)?

Are WMU football players graduating and being good citizens in the WMU & Kalamazoo community (something we've become accustomed too, regardless of coaches, with a few exceptions which were immediately addressed 03-thumbsup)?

If "yes" to all the above questions (not necessarily by order of importance) than who cares about career wins?

It would be naive to think otherwise.

If Lester has success these next 2-3 seasons, he will jump to a higher paying, higher profile job.

If Lester does not have success these next 3-4 seasons, he will be fired, or jump to an assistant coach position somewhere before he is fired (ala Enos).

Just look around the MAC at what has happened the last decade-or-so at our peer institutions. You don't have to like it, but it is reality.

I probably should have mentioned that I was being facetious... I'm sure Lester would leave. The cupboard is full right now, I would be surprised if we do not compete for the MACC in the next few years. His win total should add up thanks to the MAC schedule.
