One last chance at the big time...he'll bolt if he has a chance to go to the SEC.

One last chance? The man is 57.

But I'm glad you know our coach, better than we do. He's not untouchable by any means, but his and his family's place in the community is a bit different than that of most coaches. At this point I don't see him leaving for just any SEC/ACC job, not somewhere that is a perennial loser anyhow.

If he's offered by a good program in a community he has the right feeling about, I'd wish him well.

Some of our Jucos have sat out a year (Habersham, Walters). And Williams sat out last year (not a grad transfer).

Kermit has changed his style of coaching with the added years of wisdom. He has a different demeanor now. It does help when you win, I'm sure. He'll always be defense-first, however.

And he's excellent with the media. I think you'll see Kermit as a TV analyst one day. I think that is his "dream" after he's done coaching.

I don't claim to know your coach, but EVERY fan base thinks their guy is different. If he gets offered an SEC job, he's gone. That doesn't make him a bad guy, it makes him human. I've got no problem with that (just as, it is his responsibility to act as though he'll be MTSU forever.)

I think he may take LSU if offered.

But his family will have a say-so in his decision. He does have a special needs child who is entrenched in our community.

Funny story...... last year when our ladies were playing at UAB's arena at the CUSA tourney in the early round.......... she (Ally) was told it was time to leave to see the men over at the BJCC. The games were staggered and she'd miss the second half of the women's game.

She said "I'm not leaving until the game is over". So she missed the first half of her dad's game 03-lmfao

We've only had four transfers (only one was a grad transfer). The four were Dendy, Williams, Walker and Raymond.

Dendy and Williams are POY types.
Walker was a complete bust.
Raymond was average at best but played well against Mich State.

Where Kermit failed is he almost solely relied on high school kids hoping to bring them along. He now focuses on the best two or three kids he can get at the high school ranks in each class and builds around that with JC signees. So, it's not like he's relying solely on transfers. Look at some of this year's key players outside of Williams (Upshaw, Potts, Simpson, Dixon, Johnson) and they are high school signees.

Johnson is a qualifier from a Juco. Came to us as a sophomore, & 3 years to play, however.

You're absolutely right, EVERY fan base does think their guy is different, the thing is, some guys are different.

How many overtures did Chris Petersen turn down before finally taking the right job?

Ever heard of a guy named Mark Few? I'll certainly grant Few makes ~$1.3M compared to Kermit's ~$500k, but even at ~$1.3M he checks in somewhere around 50th in highest pay, he could become a far richer man at several dozen programs including his alma mater Oregon just a few hundred miles away.

VCU thought the same about Shaka Smart. Smart told them he wouldn't leave them for anything.

We all know the end of this story.

However, if anything, if your coach ends up going to a P5 school that just means he obviously did a hell of a job, and hopefully the program would continue with that momentum moving forward. It's really not a bad thing.

Kermit has already been at MT more than twice as long as Shaka was at VCU, but if you're telling me that whoever is coming after Kermit is offering three million like Texas offered Smart, the conversation changes.

I'm saying I don't see him leaving for a lower tier SEC/ACC job for a million and change, not that the man is untouchable.

Just transfers in general, does not even have to be grad transfers, worded that post wrong...We have not had that much luck in having success with transfers either lately....I am hoping that changes next season....Really think WKU is due to have some luck and or breaks with some of these guys......

I will add to be the next Butler, VCU, etc. you will have to draw better crowds for sure.....I was surprised at the less then stellar crowd vs us a few weeks back...I can definitely see Kermit taking the LSU job...He may see the writing on the wall with the special group he has this season and may feel it will be hard to replicate at a school like MTSU moving forward....He knows when had the pressure on him and I am guessing he does not want that again at his age....Moving on to the SEC might put a cap on his career with not much pressure at a place like LSU, after all anyone following Johnny will have nowhere to go but up...HIring johnny from North TExas was a major head scratcher for me at the time too...

Definitely need better fan support and I sound like a broken record about that one. But La Tech game was a big improvement. Over the first half of CUSA play's Thu/Sat games we have improved by about 1,000 each game. That said, even Butler didn't average above 6,000 per game in 2008-09, the year before their NCG run, and didn't hit 7,000 the year of their high ranking and huge run. So we are actually not that far off from getting up there in terms of fan support. The good thing right now is CKD has figured out his recruiting. We have a phenomenal freshman redshirting this year who is as good as Upshaw IMO. LSU is a risk because you can't spend 10 years slowly building up in the SEC and finishing at .500 ... That's a recipe for a firing. Their patience is a lot smaller.

And again, there's a lot of room between taking the first power conference job you're offered and taking a job at Texas for three million a year.

Well we already don't like each other. So that part of being "like VCU" is in the bag. 05-stirthepot 04-cheers

The next part would be for you to roll your fanbase inside a giant buttcrack and wash it off with urine. Then you just might emulate the VCU smell.

VCU was forged in the ninth circle of hell. The Rams are treacherous (mainly by fouling every time the other team touches the ball) and no good can come by being compared to them.
