Xavier was ranked 22 in the last coaches poll before playing Cincy, who beat them handily; yet this week they are still ranked at 25. I guarantee you that if SMU, who is about to be ranked, loses to Cincy in the next few games, they would drop off the charts from a 22 position. I know the Big East has the great Villanova and Butler, Creighton and Xavier are good teams, but a few years ago those 3 were nobody mid majors, of which only Butler, made any real head way in the tourney. Am I crazy for thinking that the new Big East is somewhat overrated or not?

The new Big East is not nearly as deep as the old Big East but it's still very good with defending NC 'Nova leading the charge. If Georgetown and St. Johns ever return to old form than the conference is equal the old Big East in relative power.

That's not my point. You guys will definitely win your next 3 games and be ranked before you play Ciny again; lose that game and I guarantee you guys won't be #25 like Xavier after they lost to Cincy when they were #22.

It's such a big game I must have forgot.

Xavier was always near the top of A10. Made the Big Dance 13/18 years, 2 trips to Elite Eight, 3 to Sweet Sixteen. They've long been a very good school for hoops.

Cincy could've easily lost that game. And Xavier will probably tank the rest of the year but that's because they lost Edmond Sumner yesterday. They are a good team and program.

It's almost as big as Teh Rivalry, but not quite. No hard feelings though. It's hard to top the greatest rivalry between a Texas and an Oklahoma school.

Big East still is a great conference....and thats with Gtown down.

Big East is doing better than I thought over the last few years. Figured the low exposure of Fox woukd be taking its toll. The rpi of their teams is ridiculous.

I'm not saying Xavier isn't good, just that the teams the BE added don't add up to the teams they lost. In my opinion it's an engineered relevance, much like the ACC. Not too long ago their football was garbage/worse than BE football and their basketball was only Duke, North Carolina and Maryland every once in a while.
