What say you people?

Does Lester keep WMU on top and winning MAC championships like Butch Jones did for CMU after Brian Kelly left. Or does WMU see the slow decline into mediocrity like Dan Enos took CMU into after Jones left?

Obviously there is a little difference considering Lester wasn't a part of Fleck's staff like Jones was of Kelly's, but the talent is there to win another MAC championship on our roster right now.

Doubt he will be either. He is far to decent a person to be another Butch. That guy was an idiot. But he was smart enough to keep the stuff that was working well, which is why he was successful. New coaches don't need to "put there own stamp" on a program. Which leads us to Enos. He is a classic example of changing when you don't have to. Hope Lester is smarter than that.

Neither.
Enos & Butch Jones both were just looking for cmu to be just a career stepping stone.

Lester has a true love for WMU & Kalamazoo.

Lester is like anyone else. If he wins on the level that PJ did. He is going to leave too. If he is here for 6 years than that means he is just good enough not to lose his job. I think most of us don't want to return to that.

RE: Is Tim Lester the next Butch Jones or Dan Enos
Well, regardless of Enos & Jones' intentions there and for the future, their results were different.

And I think any adequate HC is going to not think about anything as a stepping stone once getting the job -- not until a season's winding down and there's opportunities. Aside from what hiring position you're willing to do -- stepping-stone mentality should be off the table. It's meaningless if you don't get that program going among the best in your conference.

I think Lester could have the results of Jones. I really hope not compared to Enos, to basically be at 6-6/7-5 the whole way. Basically Enos was more or less how Cubit established himself, sans the fallout of the last year of Cubit's.

I see Lester, due to his huge love of WMU -- and seeing what mentality/culture was Effective with the team -- will ensure it'll at least side more on the Butch side, not the Enos side. Or in other words, I see us being like how Toledo's been. Before one scoffs at that -- without a dominant NIU anymore, no, it doesn't mean we won't be hitting the MACC games at all under Lester. I expect us to, mixed in there. And as a reminder, under PJ, we weren't established as being MAC West Dominant. He didn't Prove that (yet?) -- but left when the B1G opp came up, before he could do so.

Neither Jones nor Enos attended CMU. Butchie boy had brief period as assistant in Unpleasant before leaving for West Virginia, then returning when BK left.

Lester loves Western. Played here, coached here. This is his "Dream job."

He'll be Tim Lester.

That'll be much better than either BJ or Mr. Midland (Enos).

His love of Western means absolutely zero when it comes to winning MAC championships.

We're expecting MAC championships still I assume?

It means he's a great fit for us, better than either Jones or Enos for Central.

He will coach-recruit his tail off to win MAC championships here without one foot out the door, unlike his predecessor.

I agree that the effort will be there. I will say I am confident of that.

And if he does win and moves on, I have a feeling he will at least have enough respect for WMU to not take 9 recruits with him out the door.

I don't think the win-big-and-leave-like-PJ-did path is a forgone conclusion at all.

But... let's all hope he wins big so we can find out! 04-cheers

RE: Is Tim Lester the next Butch Jones or Dan Enos
I think Fleck handled everything well, knowing he was going to be on the Market for a new HC position -- and possibly staying with a great contract that was being put together at WMU. So I don't think the recruiting part was all that affected -- even though yeah, it's best not to have that in mind. Him obviously bolting from the on-going WMU contract and running for Minnesota when that whole thing happened -- and taking our best recruits and many of them -- that was the WTF.

And I don't think Lester would do that either. But at the same time, I don't think Lester will have As good recruits, but yes, he'll be working his tail-off bringing out the best in himself more than he would anywhere else and more than a Butch or Enos or anyone else would as far as their effort.

That's why I think we'll see Lester in a better-than-expected mode, in reference to what one would expect of him being a HC anywhere else that was decent. There won't be a lack of time, effort, and energy that can come from him. So that Is a plus (and probably WHY we went after him 4 years ago and this year).

I would like to see us play Minn in the coming years, but Minn OOC schedule is fully booked thru 2020.

Why are people assuming Lester will not recruit as well as Fleck did?

How 'bout we give the new Wrangler a couple years to show what he can do?

Because it could be argued that no one ever has in the MAC. And he wont.

Tim Lester will be the next TIM LESTER.

He will recruit, coach, and win games. He's a winner and dedicated to the Broncos.

In two weeks, he has assembled a strong coaching staff, recruited skilled athletes, and has already put his mark on WMU football.

Wish I had that same confidence. How many games you think he will win this year? You expecting a MAC championship?
