During the 2010 season UTEP finished 26-6 (15-1) with an RPI of 42. We lost in the conference championship game but did manage to receive an at large #12 seed.

But, UTEP is Texas Western and Texas Western won a National Championship over Adolph Rupp and UK! While MT has had some great isolated moments, our little upset of Michigan State last year is not going to carry us to an At Large seed come tourney time. We are going to have to win the CUSA Tournament to get in!

The bubble is fairly weak this season, so this is the year to get an at large if you are going to...THey have still have Georgetown one of the first teams out and they are 3-8 in their conference...Our powerhouse brothers over at the American only have 2 teams in right now also...

Michigan State AD is the NCAA Selection Committee Chairman... so there's that.

But that might backfire on us -- don't get mad.......... get even

As long as MT is in the bubble watch article on espn there is no reason to lock the thread. Have some hope for goodness sake, YOU'RE OUR LAST HOPE.

I mean I don't think you'll get an at large either, but there is a lot of cannibalism happening in the ACC and Big East and Big 12. If there is enough carnage, there is hope.

A national championship half a century ago carries juice with the selection committee, but the biggest upset of last season doesn't?

RE: RPI Watch
MoodyBlueRaider, Loyola University in Chicago won the national championship in 1963, but that doesn't mean they'd get any special privileges coming out of the Missouri Valley Conference. Let's give the committee a little more credit than to go around thinking that a national championship won 50 years ago carries more weight than solid upset wins this season or even last season.

That said, my goodness, March Madness is still a month away. I hope this at-large debate doesn't last another 4 weeks, especially when there are still so many games to be played across the whole spectrum.

You have a point but Texas Western was the First All Black Starting Lineup in NCAA History to defeat an All White Starting lineup. Even though it occurred 50+ years ago, It still stands as one of the Greatest Championship Upsets of All-Time. And, UTEP has been to 17 NCAA Tourneys. MT has been 8 times.

RE: RPI Watch
I remember when we were in the SoCon College of Charleston fans would complain that the conference was keeping them from achieving greatness. But in their 15+ seasons in the conference they won the conference tournament one time. Now they're in the CAA and still don't make NCAA tournaments.

If you think you're too good for your conference on a given year, prove it by running your conference mates off the court when it's tournament time.

I think Middle will win the conference tournament FWIW, and get a higher seed than the Sun Belt champ in spite of them losing to Georgia State.

That's all well and good to think that but the reality is three games in three days anything can happen. It's a crap shoot. I don't even like conference tournaments unless there is a very significant financial reason to do so.
