UCONN recruiting blunder
With the way UCONN did this kid is there any school in the SBC that would be interested? He seems like a standout kid that's a pretty solid player for SunBelt schools.

Rundown of what happened in case you aren't aware. The new UCONN coach was hired, the kid called on January 1st to ask about his scholarship status, they said he was still coming to UCONN, the 16th they pulled it leaving him scrabbling. Apparently the schools that offered early moved on and don't have openings.

RE: UCONN recruiting blunder
Their mistake was not reaching out to everyone when Edsall was hired and clearly stating their status and then sticking with it. Edsall will end up suffering because NE HS coaches will not trust him.

Coaching turnover sucks unless you really upgrade bigtime.

Kid might be screwed. Uconn was his only FBS offer it appears.

We need an extra linebacker or two or three.

Didn't Willie Fritz at Tulane do the same thing with a kid from Florida?

Yeah but I thought it was MUCH earlier in the process, so the kid had time to look elsewhere, he just didn't want to, he had effectively shut down his recruiting prior to that.

This is the first one that I've seen where the new coach gets a phonecall from the kid asking if his scholarship is still good. That is just ridiculous in my opinion. If he would have said idk I need to watch some film then okay but to flat out lie? That's a different animal.

The back-ups are bigger and faster...I assume they are stronger as well. If the mental fortitude is there, you may be celebrating early.

They possibly thought they would need him, reviewed other recruits that had been offered yet not committed, and needed to allot a scholarship to someone else.

On it's face, it seems sketchy, however with a coach coming in with a month to really recruit it isn't surprising. This is likely a reason why many recruits pull their commitments when coaching changes happen.

Sure it isn't surprising with a coaching change to pull and offer. However, pulling it after you personally tell the kid he has the scholarship is dirty.

RE: UCONN recruiting blunder
In defense of UConn we don't actually know if the kid called Edsall to see if his scholarship was good (his parents claim that: he said, she said), and between the 1st and the day the kid was let go UConn hired a new DC so that probably affected the situation.

The guy has a scholarship offer from Cornell, something tells me he is going to be alright... UConn did him dirty though and that's not cool but it's the way it goes when changing coaches.

Cornell already filled the spot. His only current offer is RI.
