$2M project paid for by FC Cincinnati, the USL soccer tenant. If FC Cincy leaves before their lease is up, they have to pay to restore the seating bowl to its original condition.

I wish they had rounded off the whole cut instead of the notching that they are going with.

Not to mention that the AD has been unambiguous in that the previously tight corners and lines of the old stadium were seen as a safety issue. So even if the soccer lease ends someday, the bowl will not be restored to it's original configuration. The Football staff, the AD...they all are in favor of these renovations.

I have been as adamantly opposed to these changes as anyone, but they are a done deal. Move on.

Personally, it's smart if the lease deal covers the loss of those seats and then some.

Every school in this league needs to be searching for revenue streams to stay afloat.

Looking at the diagram it does not seem to be that big of a deal

Any chance Cincy is getting a MLS team? Or maybe the Columbus Crew moves to Cincy or plays some games at Cincy?

If so, this project makes more sense.

MLS president was in town in late November for a tour, IDK what will happen. Another year with really attendance maybe they get it. We have some dead areas in the north endzone where we could add seats.

UC is making serious coin just on the parking garage income. Bar restaurant owners are happy also.

It's not. Numbers wise those seats rarely got used. It's a bigger deal for fans from a change of the traditional bowl set up to benefit a business of one of the school's largest donors.

I am confident the Linder family will make it worth our while. They are to UC as the FedEx guy is to Memphis.

RE: Nippert losing 1200 seats
I don't think it's been addressed here, but many of the 1,200 seats will be replaced for football with temporary seating .

Believe me , UC fans have been hashing out the pros ans cons of this for about a year now.

http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/ne...adium.html

The renovation will create a new seating area in the stadium’s south end zone that could include customized bleachers, risers, on-field suites or other configurations.

“We plan to carve out a niche there and we’ll work with our numerous partners to utilize a unique space for some new and exciting game day experience opportunities for our fans,” UC athletic director Mike Bohn said.

Efforts are also underway to add a new high-definition scoreboard, sound system, ribbon boards, high-definition cameras and a state-of-the-art control room to the stadium. That project is estimated to cost $6 million. Final design work on those plans will be completed once funds are secured by the university.

Going below 40,000 capacity isn't going to be an issue for a P5.

Washington State is 33,500 and Wake Forest is 31,500.

38,800 is still fine for B12/ACC especially when you've got an NFL stadium locally to tap into.

Don't see a problem if it brings in an MLS team and increases revenue for UC.

A Cincinnati MLS team would draw 20K plus. Probably 25K per.

Let's be honest, does basically 1K seats really make a difference when UC isn't selling them out anyway?

Bleacher seating lost came out of the student section, so no real loss of revenue there. ..but a huge positive revenue flow from hosting 250,000 fans at their stadium and campus during the off season.

RE: Nippert losing 1200 seats
Let's get this straight...
...Cincinnati recently added 1,100 premium seats
...now the local soccer team wants to not only rent the stadium, but also pay 1/3rd of the cost to remove 1,200 seats.

Unless UC was selling out every game at a competitive price per ticket, this is a NO BRAINER. Supply and demand: with fewer lower bowl seats, what do you think will happen to the price of the remaining tickets?

RE: Nippert losing 1200 seats
I'm not a fan of removing seats, but the soccer team deal is too good to pass up for UC. If we were in the B12 making $25m+ a year we most likely tell them to pound salt but we are not in a position to do that. Plus they are paying for new scoreboard/sound system too. It's a win win.

What I do like about this is they averaged 17K0+/game and that means 17K+ people came to UC's campus and attended games in Nippert who may not have otherwise. You never know how this could affect future fans/attendance.

Regarding the Supply/Demand...Hokie is right. If Coach LF does what I think he will here, especially brining in local talent then the demand will go up. We averaged 34K last year and we were terrible. If we are good again AND start loading the team with local kids (which will happen it looks) then demand will be through the roof and UC can charge more per ticket.

RE: Nippert losing 1200 seats
Seems like a no brainer. UC increases revenue renting out Nippert to local soccer team. Increases demand for tickets to UC football, and gets soccer team to foot a lot of the bill for renovations. Won't be a show stopper should the B12 decide to expand again and they can be added again easily should they be warranted.

Didn't UCF eliminate a few seats to do some renovations recently also?

That's what we were told in the late 70's while attending NASL games.
