Tidbits from Tony Paul..
Lester contract is 5 x $800k. Up to 1.1M with bonuses.

Interviews were Wheatley, MacPherson, Pinkham, Cristobal and Lester.

Couple more..

Confirmed that P.J. Fleck turned down a 10-year extension worth more than $2 million annually from WMU to take the Minnesota job.

No word on new WMU coach Tim Lester's coaching staff, but I can confirm former Syracuse HC Scott Shafer will *not* be joining him.

Seems like we may be overpaying.

Least we're trying to do something here.. offer a guy 2+ million.. pay at the top of the conference.. interview name assistants.. instead of just hire Rod Carey and call it good. Run along now.

Then it has to be Ed Pinkham at DC, which is good. No transition for Defensive players.

Shafer was his only serious competition for that role.

Lester made $200,000 at Purdue. What did he do since he was let go that qualifies him to quadruple that? What the heck Kathy???

If that salary is correct, I'm sorry, that's embarrassing Kathy. Who were you negotiating against? Good god. Why not allocate more to the assistant pool?

Curious - who is Tony Paul, and why should we care what he writes about our program from Detroit NEWS?

Well this isn't exactly opinion stuff, but at any rate he's been frankly the best source of coverage recently and was at the presser speaking with AD etc.

Or give our Soccer program(s) or Tennis program(s) (both consistent winners) more money.

I'm not one to begrudge another man his compensation, but going from (IF true) $ 200k to $ 800k under these conditions is a bit silly.

But, it's probably not true anyway so.......07-coffee3

I'm glad WMU is getting coverage from a Detroit paper. That hasn't always been the case over the years. EMU and CMU has received more coverage over there.
Plus, Tony appeared to do more digging about potential candidates and other info during the search process than our local media outlets, including Mlive.

It will be interesting if the package that was put together for Fleck will be the same for Lester. I can't believe the community dollar amount of it would be reduced now that Fleck is gone.

I think that's a good salary. It's still tops in the mac but not outrageous. We couldn't go back to 300k a year, that'd show the country we aren't supporting our program, we were just supporting our previous coach.

Looks like same contract as PJ per MLive. 800k base with bonuses up to 1.1M. Still think we overpaid.
