Tim Lester: 'The secret to winning is culture. Coaches come and go, but culture remains.'

Lester: 'We embrace the (success of) the past, but we will focus on the future.'

There are plenty of "nevers" still awaiting this program, however, we accomplished 76 of them last season.

The list of things this program hasn't accomplished shrunk mightily in the last 3 seasons.

Lester: 'I will hire a staff of integrity and character-to recruit players of integrity and character'.

Lester: 'The exposure of the last season showed people how great kalamazoo is. We've all known it, but now a lot of the country knows it as well'

Tim Lester: 'We have expectations to win the MAC next season. The culture is at a good point right now.'

Tim Lester: 'I am very fortunate to take over with a program where the culture is at this good point.'

Reporter for Kathy: 'Was Tim at the top of your list from the beginning?'

Answer: 'He was in the top names....his experience in the Power conferences over the last 4 years added positively to his resume'

We've never went from playing in the Cotton Bowl to not making a bowl game, let's hope that doesn't happen.

Kathy: 'A main advantage is we don't have to start from scratch. We already have a good culture in the program. Tim comes in at a good time.'

Question for Tim: 'What kind of offense and defense will you bring in?'

'I like to run the ball, but during my senior year we lost RB Robert Sanford. We had to adapt to it. But the main thing is you need to control the line of scrimmage. You need to control TOP.'

'On Defense you have to stop the run. That's the main thing. You need to get your opponents in 3rd and long.'

Question for Tim Lester: 'How do you get buy-in from players. How to you deal with all the Fleckisms like 'row the boat'?'

Answer: 'We will keep some things, the culture that exists is a winning culture. If the players like some of those things we will keep them.'

Tim Lester: 'Lots of talent on team now. Need to meet with the current coaches and see where recruits are needed. I will meet with them tomorrow, talk the depth chart and see the recruiting board.'

I liked what I saw from TL, he is a good speaker. Has some humor, definitely not a dud. Not as lively as the Peej, but who is? TL conveys honesty and integrity. I liked how he tipped his cap (and mentioned) Fleck, his success, and winning culture -- which he intends to protect. He would let the players decide what isms, mantras, etc, they keep based on what motivates THEM. He even said change our best! I like how he seemed to get the importance of recruiting, and is going to keep the 6 hour radius. Said it fits/works for WMU. Each school / culture is unique in what works for them.

Would not surprise me if Tim hangs onto Pinkham and other assistant coaches. He said he will meet with them tomorrow to assess the recruiting plan and talk about our Depth Chart. You don't do that unless you have an interest in them as candidates.

Hiring Pinkham as DC would not upset me a bit.

That is a good idea to be player driven on those kinds of decisions, but it could set up an interesting dynamic if they want to keep RTB which PJ wants back, after all it is ours. If the players want it, then wmu admin should not overrule them.
