RE: Detroit News on the hire:
Detroit News is even speculating that Tim might bring Bill Cubit back in some capacity. Interesting.

I would be shocked, considering how poorly his relationship with KB and Dunn was when he was let go.

RE: Detroit News on the hire:
The main problem I had with Cubit's offense was a lack of a running game. We did not have that issue under Darnell -- even with Cubit as our OC. One of the core things Fleck did was to revitalize our running attack. Lester cannot go back to a one dimensional offense. So, while I was a huge Cubit fan back when he was hired, I'm not so enthusiastic to bring him back.

You do remember in the Late 90's we were playing in the MAC title games.

From 97-2000 the team won between 7 and 9 games every year and some of those years they only played 11 games. I'll take over the next four years 7-9 regular season wins and 2 title game appearances. Hopefully with a few bowl wins mixed in. If this team wants to be the next great non-P5 school they need to win at least 9 every year for the next 4yrs. We will see what happens.

You do remember getting smoked by Marshall every time we sniffed a MACC.

Um, no. They've never "smoked" us in a MACC game -- even though it was ALWAYS a home game for Marshall.

Didn't we blow a 20-0 halftime lead in the second MACC at Marshall?

That one stung... a lot!

Oh I know! I'm soooo giddy!! What I was always seeing as Illinois vs WMU -- Cubit vs PJ -- OH MAN... how the Soap Opera is different!

My Dream:

Minn Says: Home vs Home, RTB is theirs. We sigh. But Lester+Cubit VS PJ. OH BOY. Love It.

Imagine if those games were in Detroit as they should have been.

+1 to the puke emoticons. Not even kidding - if Cubit is even called by anyone on this staff, just to say hello, I'm cancelling my season tickets.

RE: Detroit News on the hire:
Lester has to be careful with his hires he will get a ton of blowback if he hires a bunch of cubit guys. Pinkham should stay on as dc and he should look for someone outside of the cubit coaching tree for oc. It is important for him to distance himself from cubit because it will look like he is bringing back mediocrity.

RE: Detroit News on the hire:
I'm thinking (and hoping) KB identified an ideal "mix" of talent and upside in Lester that is advantageous to the program, as opposed to just being a good friend from a past era. She could've certainly found someone more seasoned and with a stronger winning track record, that much is obvious. So I'm banking on her seeing 'something' here that other FBS ADs (and FCS ADs for that matter) haven't took the time to see, and that the time is right to lead a Div I program.

Best of luck to Tim.

Chad Pennington had something to do with that. He played in the NFL a few years, didn't he???????

If Bill Cubit gets anywhere within a ZIP code of this football program again, the shitstorm will be so much more worse than Fleck's first year.

As did several of Marshall's other players. I doubt that Ohio team that we squeaked by in front of 40,000 of our fans had nearly the talent of that Marshall team that finished undefeated that we almost took down on the road.
