Tim's programs have always been known for strong, passing offense. We also have very strong RB's to complement that. What we need is a strong Defense to complement the O.

Hanging onto Ed Pinkham would help a lot with the transition. Our Defense played way over their heads this last season, why change it if it isn't broke?

Do I hear an 'Amen!'???

He should, but he won't. Shafer.

Amen here. Added benefit of some stability. Think that's important at this time

Is Shafer even available or interested in the DC job at WMU at this point? Where is he and what's he doing? If he has a better gig, he won't be coming back.

Pinkham is HERE.

He should, but he won't. Shafer.

Amen to Pinkham. Need him for that continuity aspect. Hope Lester has his running shoes on because he'll need 'em starting Saturday. I'm reading a lot of anti-Lester comments and he wasn't my first choice but I'll give the guy a chance. Remember, we didn't know Fleck was he came on board four years ago and how well he could recruit. I'm not saying Lester is another Fleck....he isn't. But let's not throw the rope over the tree branch on him....at least not now.

I bet it's Shafer. Would normally be a slam dunk hire but I'd lean towards keeping Pinkham at this point.

WOTS or Twitter was that Shafer would be interested in coaching the defense for Lester. I was very fond of Shafer when he coached here. I think he is a good defensive mind.

BUT...

Ed Pinkham has earned the right to keep his job, and if Tim Lester has any brains at all he should try to keep him. The current players on the team will respect this, and it will go a long way to get them to respect him.

I agree with you. However, I wonder if Lester made a 'gentleman's agreement' with Shafer and unofficially offered to bring him if he got the HC job. If that happened, no way Lester burns a bridge this early in his FBS coaching career and dumps Shafer.

Pinkham is HERE.

After he was fired from Syracuse, DJ Durkin hired him at Maryland. He left in April for "personal reasons" and that I know of, is not on staff anywhere. I think he would be interested.

I think we need to keep Pinkham. This isn't a rebuild job. This team just went 13-1 with a Cotton Bowl appearance. We return most of our defense next year. DO NOT tear the program down and start over. We need to keep the momentum. The players like Pinkham and he gets a lot out of them. Keep him.
