My dream would be Bill Cubit as OC, Ryan Cubit as QB Coach, Jake Moreland TE Coach, Steve Neal as WR Coach, Robert Sanford as RB Coach, and Shafer as DC.

Welcome back Tim, I was at Waldo every game you played there. Enjoyed even the Marshall-Championship games.

As you know, expectations are very high at Western now, the support is there for you to leverage. The fan base is excited and supportive. Enthusiasm is at an all-time high. If you can take advantage of all that, we could be off to a great start. 04-rock

Hard to get mad about this hire. Lester is a true Bronco at heart and he wants to be here. I know he'll give it his all.

Welcome, Tim! We are all behind you 100%!

RE: Official Welcome Tim Lester Home to WMU Thread
WMU was ...

2-9 in 1996 (Molde's last year)
8-3 in 1997
7-4 in 1998
7-5 in 1999

These are NOT the expectations for this football program.

On ELITE teams, players lead.

I'm reserving complete judgment on the hire of Tim Lester until we have a few seasons worth of data, but it is my hope the players impress upon him that expectations have forever been raised to a higher level. We do not aspire to just win seven games and maybe tiebreak for the division anymore. Mediocrity is no longer acceptable.

My best wishes to Tim Lester.

Agreed. If going 7-5 or 8-4 and representing the MAC west in the MACC game is what the new staff considers a 'successful season' you may as well take half the seats out of Waldo stadium and use them for spares. The bar has been raised significantly since we settled for that outcome. And Tim needs to recognize that his compensation and potential increases in it are tied to TOP LEVEL performance. If he wants $ 800,000.00/year he's going to have to do some things he hasn't done before. Nuff said.

At least Lester will know we have a School of Aviation and nothing to do with boats, not even a Women's Crew team.

Especially our nickname-mascot.

I personally listened to 40,000 people chant ROW THE BOAT at Ford Field and almost as many people chanting same said slogan at AT&T Stadium.

It wasn't exactly all hollow. We had a rallying cry and a unifying program mantra.

Do I detest The Admiral for the way he left? Sure, it was sort of a dick move.

But RTB will always mean something to the history of the program and the players who took the field under Fleck.

As the Major pointed out in another thread, we've had exactly ONE ten win season in the 108 year history of Bronco football, and now 8-4 and MAC west champs is "settling?" My goodness... talk about pressure and unrealistic expectations!!! I realize big-time college athletics is all about winning at any cost whatsoever these days, but I think even this is over-the-top.

Our fan base handled adversity better than it is dealing with success.

One ten-plus win season and we're SPOILED.

If fleck was here, with all the recruits and coached we have had, I think 8-4 would be a good year next season. USC and MSU, and getting the toughest MAC schools on the road, it ain't going to be easy no matter the coach.the year after should be more manageable.

We should probably go back to having zero expectations like before.

Tough to go from averaging one MAC championship every 20 or so years to dominating a league of similar programs with revolving door coaching. "Dynasties" don't last long in MAC.

Still waiting to be the next Gonzaga in Basketball, too.

Gross over-exaggeration.

I think most of us have always expected us to have winning seasons, go to bowl games (since there are now so many of them), and compete for MAC championship consistently.

Dropping below 8 wins would be a step back. We should expect to win 8+ compete for the MAC every year. You can win at WMU, however we should all strive for 10+ win seasons. This team could win 10+ next year. 10-3 or 10-4 is not a pipe dream with the talent still on the team. Anything less than 8-5 would be a big step back. I see us as a 9-4 type team maybe better depending on the qb situation.

RE: Official Welcome Tim Lester Home to WMU Thread
All people remember about Boise bursting on to the scene was that Statue-of-Liberty play to beat Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl, but does anyone remember that they actually went 73-16 in the seven years PRIOR to that, starting in 1999? Probably not. I certainly didn't... I had to look it up.

And all that 73-16 record got them was a series of minor bowl invites during that stretch.

My point is that it takes years and years of sustained success before that breakthrough moment arrives... particularly at the G5 level.... and we are in a much more difficult position logistically than Boise is if for no other reason than the amount of P5 competition within a 4-hour drive of Kalamazoo. Gotta be patient here, gang.
