Lester is a big time recruiter in the Chicago area, and recruits that area just as well or better than Fleck has. Granted he could sell the P5 angle at Syracuse and Purdue and Fleck couldnt, but we will see. Could have been alot worse than Lester.

I could be wrong and I am going to root for the opposite but I am not sure we could have done much worse.

MSU o-line coach. The only worse option.

247Sports assembles a ranking of coaches in each conference for their recruiting prowess. In the 2016 rankings for the Big Ten, Bill Cubit was ranked 84th out of 107 recruiters. Tim Lester, QB coach at Purdue in 2016, rolls into the rankings at??? You guessed it...he's not on the list.

I'm just letting people know he knows the Chicago area pretty well and he has strong ties there. You can believe it or not.

So in 2016 bill cubit did not coach for Illinois, Lovie Smith did. I am assuming that poll would have been from stats and recruits from 2015, when Tim Lester was...Was at Syracuse. In New York, not the big ten, not at Purdue

I thought the same thing after I hit the "Post Reply" button on that message. So I went back and looked at the same rankings for the ACC. He's Ranked #60 in 2015 and #64....in 2014. Not a national ranking mind you...in the ACC.

Not really good rankings anyways, It is based on how many recruits each coach gets. if your only expected to get 1 or 2 guys your not to high.

Agree that the ranking is kind of wonky. But if you use it as a simple gauge on how well Lester did compared to his colleagues around the conference, it doesn't install a lot of confidence that he'll burn a trail down the recruiting path.

RE: What you might not know...
Fleck wasn't known as a recruiter until he got here. We'll see what Lester can do with the full backing of the AD and University.
